Pros and Cons of living on 5th Ave in Park Slope Brooklyn?

Before I answer this, to Bill K, it's the Williamsburg Savings Bank Tower, not the williamsbridge building. Pros of living on 5th Avenue in Park Slope: You are right near Prospect Park. Prospect Park is a great place. You are near some subway lines. You will be near the 7th Avenue stop on the F/G, the 4th Avenue stop on the F/G. th 15th st stop on the F/G ( if you are closer to the Prospect expressway) and near the 7th Avenue stop on the B/Q (if you are closer to Flatbush Avenue). Overall, the neighborhood is nice. The crime rates are very low. Every weekend, there is a flea market on the corner of 7th Ave. and 1st St. There are many shops, especially on 7th Avenue. Cons: The rents. Park Slope is one of the most expensive places to live in for all of Brooklyn. The traffic. Since the B.Q.E. and the Prospect are usually full of bad traffic. Because of that, a lot of traffic spills over to 3rd, 4th and 5th Avenue. Parking is a total nightmare in Park Slope. If you have any other questions, feel free to message me. I have lived in Brooklyn my entire life and I know Park Slope and many nieghborhoods in Brooklyn better than the back of my hands.

I live on Fifth Ave. in Park Slope. I have lived on Fifth for 7 years now (I moved to Park Slope in 1981 as a college student.) It IS noisy. It's by far the noisiest place I've lived in. My bedroom faces the street, and it gets very loud sometimes late at night. Part of the problem is that the blocks are short. So very late at night, when there is no white noise of a lot of traffic and people walking by, you really hear it when people stop at either light (at either end of the block) and they have their radios on - often LOUD!!!! During the day there are a lot of trucks making deliveries, and that gets loud as well. Also, there are a lot of restaurants and bars that close late on the weekends, and the crowd spills out - usually more than a little drunk - and they don't realize how loud they are getting! But, if you are near the 'heart of the Slope" (5th Street to Berkeley Place or so) you are near a lot of cool restaurants and great places to go out and have a drink with a friend. It's nice to just walk out of the door and find a hip, urban street laid out in front of you. And Park Slope in general is a great place to live! So it has it's good and bad points. Hope this helped.

Fifth avenue itself might not always be noisy and congested, but Fourth Ave often is from spillover traffic from the expressway it parallels. If you are in the low numbered or named streets (park slope area) it is a nice place to live with a trendy feel to the place which means that there are interesting restaurants and such. There's Cousin John's bakery that features great almond croissants that go nice with their fine coffee. The Park Slope Food Coop is a popular neighborhood feature. One con is that it is not a good place to have a car. parking is tough to find on the street and expensive if you have to pay. You don't really need a car though. There is a shopping mall that has a PathMark store by the Williamsbridge Bank Building. Look up, you can't miss the clock tower. More interesting food shopping can be found in nearby Red Hook at the Fairway Market. Among other features, they roast their own coffee to give you a wide variety at reasonable prices, often running specials for $4 or $5 a pound.
