How does Foursquare return venues during search?

Alternative music venues in/close to New Orleans?

  • I live in Mississippi and would like to head somewhere 2-5 hours away for a good show. As you know, it's difficult to find good well known bands in the south, as well as it's hard to search online for good local bands. A few examples of the sort of music I am interested in traveling for would be: Title Fight (pop punk!) The Avett Brothers (country/folk that's actually good) Maps and Atlases (indie) Two Door Cinema Club (alternative) and of course perhaps my favorite, Modest Mouse (which ever stereotyped genre they fit into would be my favorite genre) I don't return to college till January 11th. Shows and venues I'd be interested in? Thanks!!

Some beignets, huh? Those are always a favorite :) In terms of music clubs...lots of options and yes, Nola Saint listed some good ones. If you're into jazz and funk then i'd def check out some stuff on Frenchmen.... even if you're not, i think you'd enjoy it. Another option for off beat sorta stuff is the Hi Ho Lounge. Its on St. Claude Ave in the Marigny (just outside the French Quarter) You can also do a little research of your own by going to www.bestofneworleans.com which is the website for the Gambit which is a local arts and entertainment newspaper. Or there's a magazine called Off Beat magazine which i believe has a website as well. Have a great time! I'm sure you will no matter where you wind up.
