Unfortunately, you will miss Mardi Gras 2008. The festivities start in early January, and end on Mardi Gras day, February 5, 2008. This does fluctuate from year to year. Mardi Gras is approximately 6 weeks prior to Easter. Although New Orleans is never without excitement! Go to www.nola.com and search entertainment. Mardi Gras is ONE DAY, Fat Tuesday, the FINAL day of the entire Carnival season, which officially begins Jan. 6, Twelfth Night, every year. NO, you will miss Mardi Gras when you come--Mardi Gras seldom falls in March; it nearly always falls in Feb. It last fell on March in 2003. You would have to come between Jan. 20 and Feb. 5 to catch the festivities. The date of Mardi Gras fluctuates every year--it's 46 days before Easter, before the beginning of Lent. The parades start about 2 weeks prior to Fat Tuesday, but the Carnival balls start next month. The entire Carnival season next year will be rather short, from Jan. 6-Feb. 5, a little less than a month.
