    Monroe is pretty quiet. I couldn't stand living there, though. I was made for New Orleans living. And to Doc- we have parishes, not counties. And why are you talking about Louisiana people like we are animals??? Obvioiusly you are commenting on something you know nothing about. Its called Yahoo Answers, not Yahoo Guesses. You don't have to treat us like we're infected. We love tourists, and we want you to go to our resaurants, and come talk to us. Sure there are a few buttholes, but they have those wherever you go. And it is nothing like New Orleans, I promise.

Monroe is a sleepy, little city with not much action. Pretty boring! You'll be fine. I've been there many times and don't know what doc is talking about.

I wish you had named the County (probably Monroe) and I would check with some people. In general, that area is moderately safe, if you are vigilant, mind your own business, don't be overly observant of the locals or mess in their affairs, just leave them alone, and you should do all right.

yes it's far from the "Big Easy" New Orleans and any real or imagined bad news. just don't speed or you'll be getting a ticket or two, other than that no worries.

It's probably safer than New Orleans, but I don't remember ever being in Monroe. Peace!

I'm from New Orleans, and once had the pleasure of living in Monroe (Ouachita Parish). It's a small, quiet sleepy town. I would say that's its pretty safe and the people are quite nice. The only complaint I had about the place is there is a paper mill across the Ouachita River in West Monroe. The smell from the place can take a while to get used to.
