Where in Miami would you stay?

Visiting miami. where should i stay? suggestions?

• going to be in miami in end of may. want to drive down to key west--should i stay down there for one nite? or should i drive back to miami? where are the best places to stay in miami? can you give me some neighborhood ideas? pros and cons of staying in south beach or any of the other neighbourhoods? is it worth visiting ft. lauderdale or surrounding areas? what's there to do there? should i stay overnite?

  I was in Miami a few months ago and stayed in Coconut Grove. (The Courtyard Marriott there was inexpensive and really nice! Lots of pools, palms trees, big suites, great staff.) You aren't on the beach, but there's lots to do and the beach is definitely close enough. From my understanding, many of the South Beach hotels are overpriced and really rundown. We took a drive to the Keys and drove back in the same day. If we had more time, we would definitely have spent a night or two in Key West. I would recommend it. And Fort Lauderdale is close and beautiful, too. Have a great trip!
