What are some cool places to go in fort Lauderdale?

What are some highlights in the Miami / Fort Lauderdale area?

• My husband and I, along with some friends are heading to Florida in January. We will be there for two days, including my my fortieth birthday, preparing to leave on our long awaited cruise! Since we will be in the area, on my birthday, I want to go somewhere special. To take in things I normally don't have the opportunity to. Of course, I live in Kansas, so it leaves it pretty much wide open, LOL. Anyway, if you have been there or know of the area, I would appreciate your advice. Any ideas about beaches, restaraunts, clubs, shopping, romantic places, etc... in the Fort Lauderdale / Miami area, would be a great help. ~THANKS~

  OKAY, Miami has dangerous areas as do all cities. Im sure Kansas has them too lol but the person above is making it sound like you are walking into a scene from Scarface. Ah ignorance. Anyway..FT Lauderdale has a bunch of restaurants near Las Olas blvd..which btw is a really nice beach..and clubs, bars, shopping. Im not too familiar w exact street names down there but i have been to FT Lauderdale a couple of times and there are alot of thigns to do. I would google for information. As for Miami again alot of restaurants bars and clubs. Ocean Drive and Lincoln Rd are the main tourist areas and would prob be more of interest to you since everything is close by. just take a walk down ocean and youll find something to your liking. The clubs and bars are more spread out around So Beach. For bars i would recommend going to the Delano and gansevoort or town house hotels for nice rooftop bars. Nice clubs would be mansion, nikki beach, prive, set, dolce ,Mynt or Mokai. I wouldnt go to dowtown Miami as its a bit scary and not much going on there anyway. Have fun!
