Any good family places to visit in Southern California?

Uncommon places to visit or suggestions for day trips in Southern California?

  • My good friend and I would like to go exploring this coming Sunday. He's lived in California for about 3 years, so he's been to all the typical tourist spots (hollywood, beaches, all the theme parks). But I'm sure there are tons of places that he doesn't know about (or I, for that matter). Could someone suggest a cool place to go to, or give an idea for a day trip? Any must-see places? We're sort of near LAX, so a place that's not terribly far from there would be great. Thanks so much beforehand.

Take a drive up to Lake Arrowhead, the climate is great, there is a small village with great shopping,and some nice restaurants. you will get out of the heat in L.A.. It's about 2 or 21/2 hr. ride up in the San Bernardino mountains. The lake is real nice . Have fun.

You might try going to Redondo Beach, there is a pretty nice pier there with some shops and places to eat and an area for picnics too. If you don't mind driving further south to Laguna Beach, there are lots of really interesting shops there, its very 'arty ' or you might take a boat over to Catalina Island from either Long Beach or from Balboa Island near Newport.
