Answer:
I find it hard that anyone would move to LA with out a job lined up first. The area has one of the highest unemployment rates in the nation. I hope your savings can hold you for a year or more if needed, and that you will take any job to make ends meet. You have researched the cost of living and tax rates? You know that to register even a modest car you are looking at $1000? Good luck, do your homework and be smart. Moving is expensive, and the wrong move is even more so.

There's no specific time line. It's a matter of finding the right match, and being the best person for the job. Frankly, this is a really poor time to move here. As the economy improves, the ones gettting hired are the experienced people that were laid off. Newbies will have to take the interview and hit it out of the park, but that's if you can even get an interview. Hiring managers don't care about your personality if your resume fits on half a page. BTW, it's VERY difficult to survive by waiting tables or doing retail. They get paid just above minimum wage, and the math just doesn't work out. In order to survive here, you can't make the $3000 per month you need by waiting tables.

dude, you already asked this question or a similar one more than once in the last 2 days. the answer will be the same TODAY, TOMORROW, NEXT WEEK, NEXT YEAR, NEXT DECADE! WAIT: you say you have a degree in marketing and you want a job in retail or being a waiter? hmmmm, that's putting a degree to very good use. also the reason you havent heard from any online jobs you applied for is when employers are in the hiring mood, they want someone a minute ago. NOT a month from now after a person moved here and spending two weeks getting his utilities activated.

You asked this already. The answers are going to be the same. I'd rather wait until you have a job before you move there. Chances are, it will take a VERY LONG TIME before the job market gets better. Despite the fact that more jobs have been created, November saw a bigger unemployment rate nationwide than October. __________ Oh, and by the way, a girl I know who graduated from UC San Diego got her degree and it took her a year to find a job only to get a job in Los Angeles that pays $23,000/yr. To survive in Los Angeles, you will need AT LEAST $36,000/yr. and you're not going to live comfortably even with that amount.
Assuming all industries across the board are affected by the economy, I think you should expect to take a few months before you make even small progress. Also, you'll want to expand your area to places outside Hollywood area.

If you are planning on a marketing career in Los Angeles you need to sell yourself first. Make sure your resume is concise and easy to follow. No more than two pages. When you get to LA go to places you might want to work and leave your resume in person. Call and ask to speak to the Marketing Manager and ask if he/she knows if there are any openings now or on the horizon or if they have any advice. They will appreciate your enthusiasm and progressive attitude. Network. Go to job fairs and talk to people you meet. When you get to LA look in the job magazines that are free in public places. You never know when a job opportunity will pop up. Just sending resumes will not do the trick. Are you using Monster.com or one of the other job search engines? They not only have job info but give advice on how to find a job, as well.

This is really a business question not a travel question. On average, in this economy it takes 6-8 weeks for each $15000 you want to earn annually. So it would depend on how much you need to support yourself.

During Christmas time you can try Disneyland. Heres a hint O Man hit it on the head. 3000 a month to survive. Retail/Waitresssing will make ends meet

My niece has a degree in marketing. Got a job, then got laid off. She ended up working at Target. If you want to work at Target, great. Otherwise you may be SOL. There are people here that have been looking for work for YEARS. Without strong experience, you're going to have trouble finding work. Sorry, that's the reality of LA right now.

Between 3 to 40 months. Really, you do NOT move to LA unless you have a job lined up.
