Can I camp anywhere on Catalina Island?

1st time Snorkeling, maybe at Catalina Island?

  • Hi, this will be the first time for us to snorkeling, we are thinking maybe we will go to catalina island. My husand and i are swimmers, we are thinking to buy our own wet suit and snorkeling tools instead of rent. but we never did snorkeling before, must we take snorkeling training in order to snorkel?? doest it required special skill to snorkel?? this will be our first time to catalina island as well, i have no idea where to start to snorkel, is it going to be far from the beach? do i have to rent a boat in order to go to a snorkeling site? and how is the transportation on the island, within walking distant or must rent something? i'll also appreciate any price information on transportation/boat rental on the island.     Rather than buy all that stuff, why not just rent it a couple times to see if you like it? I found a company on the island that specializes in snorkeling tours. Having done a lot of snorkeling myself, I believe you will REALLY enjoy it. It requires no special skill, other than the ability to put your face in the water and breathe through a tube. SCUBA requires training, not snorkeling. Contact snorkelingcatalina.com. Here is a description of the tour: This exciting snorkeling adventure begins with a scenic ride along Catalina's fabulous coastline to one of our hidden coves. Once there, you will have plenty of time to explore the beautiful underwater gardens and watch the different varieties of fish as they swim by. Trip includes the mask, fins, snorkel, wetsuit, instruction & refreshments. No prior snorkeling experience is necessary; you just need to know how to swim. Price Adults: $47.50 Children (under 13): $42.50 If you decide to do a second trip, ask to go to the Italian Gardens near Long Point. bibi--- did you want to go to some special place to snorkel or something....Get your wet suit ( they make real cute ones now) (you will need it--Catalina water will be cold) , mask and fins, go to the beach, get in the water, spit in your mask so it doesn't fog up, put it on your face and jump in the water....Don't breath in water through your tube, if you do blow it out....It's pretty simple....Every kid with a bath tub does this.... Transportation on the island is by rental golf carts... Scuba is much more complicated and requires training and certification...ask any one--- everyone in L.A. knows about this stuff because of all the beaches..Everyone here has done this since they were like 5 ..
