Safe neighborhoods in LA?

Neighborhoods to stay away while visiting LA?

  • I hear and watch on TV a lot about the gangs in LA. is it really that bad? And as a visitor visiting LA for a week. what are the Areas/ City/Neighborhoods that one should avoid from driving in? what are the Neighborhoods that one can book the rooms in without worrying too much and which one to completely avoid and not think of? Thanks Y'all

  • Answer:

Gangs are everywhere.. Even our beloved mayor "Tony V" is a former gang member. but like he said " We clean your toilets". so I suppose he ain't all that bad, eh? Oh, I think his ex wife will disagree LOL

Well I'll tell you how it really is. In LA the area you want to AVOID the most is South Central. I've only ever been there once and i am not going back any time soon. Overall La isn't ghetto or dirty as say NYC can be. East LA isn't that bad-comparable to Brooklyn but without the art culture and as for the nice areas-Well anywhere in the West LA/Beverly Hills/Hollywood area is absolutely beautiful. and on the other side there's Duarte/Pasadena(famous for the rose parade) and don't forget the beach! like Santa Monica. There's tons of stuff to do everywhere and Los Angeles is huge. I guess I left out the actual city of Los Angeles which is actually pretty interesting as well. Anyways I hope i helped and have a great time!

you know what i seen on tv an alien autopsy. do you believe everything you see on tv? pick up a book, try having some original thoughts, and turn off the tv. their are going to be bad places everywhere you go, the coincidence being that they are all located in economically depressed areas.

I heard on TV that.. I saw on TV that.. On TV.. So when the TV tells you that the whole state of Alabama is married to their relatives? Will you believe them? What business do you have in the neighborhoods to begin with? Just leave them alone.

Yes L.A. is dangerouse. Stay away from South Central and the rest of the inner city and you should be fine. I would stay in a suburb like Passadina, Malibu, Beverly Hills. The actual city is a dump.

Hi Sunny, We get pretty tired here of debunking all the cr@p that gets shown on TV. We all knows that sensationalism sells, and that sex and violence at the top of the list. Based on what people are shown, it's easy to think that LA is overrun with gangs, murders on every corner, etc. The reality is that, while violence can truly happen anywhere, it mostly only happens in very isolated areas: South LA, Compton, East LA, and a couple of others. It's pretty easy to find safe hotel rooms. Just go to tripadvisor.com and look up any hotel before booking. Keep in mind that one person's "diverse neighborhood" is another one's "ghetto". But you can get a general feel for a hotel without even going there. But since you asked, I'll give you my hotel recommendations for LA: Since LA is so spread out, there is no single place that is close to EVERYTHING. Most people who come here tend to stay in Hollywood, Santa Monica, or Anaheim. In Hollywood, I recommend the Orchid Suites, Hollywood Celebrity Hotel, or Holiday Inn Walk of Fame, all near Hollywood and Highland. Another one is the Best Western Sunset Plaza. In Santa Monica, the Holiday Inn Santa Monica is close to the pier and reasonably priced. In Anaheim, I recommend the Howard Johnson (HoJo) Anaheim, and the Candy Cane Inn. There is also a nice place in Burbank called the Best Western Media Center, very close to Warner, NBC, and Universal Studios.

Just avoid South LA and East LA!! You can stay around the Hollywood area. Like Melrose, West Hollywood, and Beverly Hills!! Anything near a beach is good, that's close to LA!!

Please, get out from behind the boob tube once in a while. If it was so darn miserable, then why would some of the richest people in the country live here? Use your common sense, if you see a neighborhood that has liquor stores and gun shops on every corner, then you're obviously not meant to be there. Nothing you do is going to lead you into those neighborhoods, trust me.
