Moving to Chino Hills,California for senior year?Help!!!?
-
Okay so I am stressing like crazy! I am 16 and a junior in high school in Georgia. Im planning on living in California and going to San Diego State University after high school. But the only way I can be considered for in-state tuition is if I live in Cali for 1 year and a day (so I've been told anyway) and my mom really hates Georgia. So we are more than likely moving to Chino Hills this summer right before my senior year.Im not sure if the GHSGT-georgia high school graduation test(what Im about to take in march) is going to count if i move.Am I going to have to take the CAHSEE-california high school exit exam to graduate???Am I going to be able to be a senior or will I get held back???Will my gpa start all over???How easy is it going to be for me to adjust???Plz Help!

Answer:
yay i grew up in chino hills! love it there!! only moved 10 miles away hehe anyways i believe you will have to take the cahsee (its easy dont sweat) but as far as your credits go they will transfer but you might have to be held back if you do not have enough to be a senior with california standards. some people in chino hills can be stuck up just because they live in the hills and think they are better then everyone but trust me, not everyone is like that. what school will u be going too? email me if you need any more info [email protected] lived in chino hills all 19 years of my life =]

Remind your mom that the recession has hit the SoCal area especially hard, more so than other parts of the country. She may find it extremely difficult to find a job. Also understand that Chino Hills is an upper middle class community so rent/mortgages will be pretty high. As far as school is concerned, California schools, as a whole, rank near the bottom academically. You will probably find that you will be far ahead of most of your classmates. When my family moved here the subject matter I was being taught here as a high school freshman was basically the stuff I learned in Pennsylvania in the 7th grade. PS: Please do not call our state "Cali". That is a drug city in South America, and many of us find that term insulting when referring to our state. We call it "Cal".

Yes, you have to take the CAHSEE test when you go to California. My cousin from Texas moved to California in his senior year and he had to take it. But not to worry, that test is EASY!! Yes, you will still be a senior in California and all the work that you did in Georgia will be transferred to California. Well, your mom will have a DIFFICULT time looking for a job since a job here in California is non-existent. She will also be paying double (maybe even triple) of what she's paying in Georgia. You won't get lots of humidity, so that would take some getting used to. Traffic here is terrible, IT'S EXPENSIVE TO LIVE HERE. By the way, there is a difference between Cali and California (which Peedlepup said.)
Not to worry. Since most curriculum is transferable, you should still be a senior. However, you will still need to take and pass the CAHSEE. Your GPA should carry with you, so that's good. I think it will be easier to adjust than you think. For one, California schools have a reputation for being not as rigorous as other states. You'll have to get used to low humidity and milder temperatures. However, people here tend to be more tolerant, but a little less personal than Georgia. Good luck! You should do fine!
