Colleges in the Los Angeles or San Diego area to check out? I'm interested in sciences and possibly business. Being from Kansas City, I'm not to familiar what schools are like/ known for out there. I want a good school, don't care if its private or public necessarily. I just don't want an atmosphere of extreme snobbery, people who party to hard, or people who never have some fun. I'm planning on looking at UCLA and UCSD and possibly U San Diego. I come from a private, catholic Jesuit school background but am pretty flexible. What schools are good for an above average student. Just give me your thoughts please.

Answer:
Loyola Marymount is very good. http://www.lmu.edu Or try the National Catholic College Admission Association for a complete list of U.S. Catholic colleges and universities with details: http://www.catholiccollegesonline.org/index.html With love in Christ.

Look into Pepperdine University in Malibu (that is nice in LA), Claremont Colleges (Peter Drucker School of Business), UC Santa Barbara is nice although its in Northern California. University of La Verne, Azusa Pacific, Mount St. Mary's, Loyola Marymount. To be honest with you UCSD is a party school, I have friends who's kids attend there. Good luck.

ROFL ucsd is not a party school. Its the 3rd highest ranked UC school after Cal and UCLA, and is considered to be on the same level (if not even more respected) then UCLA as far as sciences go. Also, UCSB is the biggest party school in california. UCSB was the only California university to make it in Playboy magazine's top 10 list of party school.
none
Think of Claremont McKenna or Harvey Mudd Colleges. They are in Claremont, CA and are known as the Claremont Colleges.

I would skip the claremont schools, they are really weird and dont really appeal to everyone You should check out USC, UCLA, loyola marymount, and pepperdine in the LA area pepperdine is extremely associated with christianity, loyola too but not as much And just do USD and UCSD in san diego, I didnt think much of UCSD but its a good education, and USD doesnt have the greatest academic rep, if your above a 3.5, you can do better than USD Id focus on the LA schools they are much better choices than san diego also in orange county you can check out UCI and Chapman, UCi especially cuz it is known for science and business

I'm sure you're aware, but attending a CA public school as a non-resident will cost you the same as a private school, about $55,000 a year for fees, room & board, summer costs, living very modestly. It is almost impossible for a typical student to become a CA resident for tuition purposes within the 4 years. In addition to UCLA, UCSD and U San Diego, you might want to take a look at: Pepperdine http://www.pepperdine.edu/ USC http://www.usc.edu/ Occidental http://www.oxy.edu/ Chapman http://www.chapman.edu/ Claremont Colleges http://www.claremont.edu/ (Some are very competitive.) Caltech http://www.caltech.edu/ (Very competitive.) UCSB is known as a party school, but it has a lovely campus and bright kids. You don't have to party if you're not into it, I have been told by a relative who works there. http://www.ucsb.edu/ Two days isn't enough to really check out many colleges. From what I've seen when looking at tour schedules, they tend to be too close to the same times (usually 2 per day) and usually not enough time to drive to the next campus. You can do self-guided tours, but if at all possible, it's best to do a guided campus tour and the information session. (We're doing a bunch over the next two weeks.) You might want to do the tour and info session at your 2 favorites in the mornings and self-guided tours at others in the afternoons. If you're coming out here soon, book quickly as dates are filling up. College Board http://www.collegeboard.com/ College Search > Find your match (I was just speaking to a girl tonight who recently graduated from U SD and she had all positive things to say about it. She had attended a top local Catholic high school.) Good luck!
