Answer:
both Santa Monica and Malibu are bit pricey some houses in Malibu goe for 1 million dollars you said you going to lauch my career as a singer and a actress do you have agent yet? do you have any tapes of you? Nope? get in line with thousand of others then too many people try that route and end up out on the street

Why are you confining your search to those two cities? There are many other "nice" areas in So Cal to live besides Santa Monica, and Malibu. "Mobile Mark" is correct about coming here "to become an actress". You will just be another face in the crowd. 97% of all EXPERIENCED, PROFESSIONAL entertainers (union statistics) are out of work at any one time, and looking for something to do. You would be competing with them plus all the other wanna-be's for work. Remember the lines from the Bert Bachaback / Dion Warwick song "Do you know the way to San Jose?": L.A. is a great big freeway, put a hundred down and buy a car. In a week, maybe two they'll make you a star. Weeks turn into years, how quick they pass, and all the stars that never were are parking cars, and pumping gas. To make it here get your degree, and a MARKETABLE job skill. Have about $10,000 to tide you over for about a month. People who move here sucessfully find a job first, then look for somewhere to live nearby to avoid a long commute. After you have established yourself, and can support yourself then look into the singing / acting, but not before.

Well in Santa Monica there is a nightlife, whereas Malibu is mostly just rich people "living it up" Malibu is very expensive which is why you see rich people there, but its also very nice. Santa monica is nice too but not as expensive as Malibu. In the end I would choose Santa monica because you would get out and have fun more, and the price of living is not as high. Good Luck with your career in Entertainment!!!

I'd be laughing if it weren't so sad. Malibu or Santa Monica? That's where you wind up AFTER you've made it in your chosen career. Don't they teach basic mat in High School? (Or spelling "eather"?). And I thought California schools were bad! Sorry if I come off as rude, but the best way I can help you is to give you information you'll need to make it here. A decent place in a decent neighborhood in LA (a 1 BR apartment in Silverlake, let's say), runs about $1200 per month. Santa Monica and Malibu can run three times that. So, you're going to need a decent job to pay for all that. Unless, of course, you want to live in the ghetto section, where you can pay $600-$700 per month, and listen to the percussion of gunfire each night. Your choice. Our other two posters were also absolutely correct. All those wannabe actors and singers are great. They bring me my drinks and my food when I dine out, ask me if I want fries with that, etc. You getting the picture here? There is an unlimited supply of hopefuls here, but a small and finite demand. If you take Econ 101, you'll know what that means. So get yourself a better plan, start checking out craigslist, and check back with us in a couple months when you've done the research. We'll gladly assist you.

Well you seem to have some time before you move out to Cali so I'll try to answer your question honestly without sounding rude. Unless you're pulling in six figures a year, theres NO way you can afford Malibu. That is where the celebs and powerful of Los Angeles live. Santa Monica is a bit more affordable but is much more expensive than what most of Florida offers. Santa Monica has beaches and shops so a girl like you would probably enjoy it, but I'll tell you this, unless you have a nice job out of college you shouldn't even look at these areas because as many posters have said before me, these two cities are places you end up AFTER you've made it. I'd say you're better off trying Silver Lake or the Valley. As for places to live, Craigslist usually works pretty well, in fact I'm using that to place an ad for a room.

Santa Monica is your better choice. Malibu is basically just a neighborhood of the rich and famous. Although both are expensive Malibu is far more. Santa Monica has many things to offer, you have the beach, the pier, the promenade. Its also close to everything in LA.

who ever says there is nothing in malibu is insane!!! malibu is amazing!!!!!!!!!!! you can go to the beach and go to clubs and go to the town and go shopping.

Oh sweetie, a singer /actress in LA? really? sigh.. You wont be able to afford either SM or malibu, start researching north hollywood, or studio city.
