What is the average pay rent range in los angeles?

  • Answer:

The westside of LA is expensive, especially near UCLA (Westwood, LA 90024), it's one of the most desirable areas of LA. Close to UCLA, you can expect an OK single in an OK area to start at around $1000, a one bedroom at around $1500. Sometimes you can find something OK for slightly less, but it might take a lot of searching. There are not-so-nice neighborhoods on the westside, but they won't be much less expensive than $1200 for a one bedroom. You might be able to find an OK 1 bedroom in Culver City/Palms for $1200. However, apartment buildings where they rent mostly to students are sometimes a bit less expensive, or you can find roommates. Look at the UCLA housing office website: UCLA Housing http://www.housing.ucla.edu Community Housing http://www.cho.ucla.edu Be careful of rental scams, there are lots of them. If a landlord doesn't run your credit, it is likely an illegal sublet, which won't last long and you'll lose money. Make sure whoever you rent from has the right to rent the unit, as one popular scam is a person who has nothing to do with the building takes deposits from many prospective tenants, and then disappears with the cash. This has been happening for years, even though it's been on the news many times. Traffic near UCLA / the westside, is often terrible, even at times it shouldn't be. Try to live as close to UCLA as possible, within walking distance, if you can. If it costs you a bit more, you will likely end up thinking it was very worth it. You can see safety info here: http://www.lalife.com/ http://projects.latimes.com/mapping-la/neighborhoods/ Good luck!

Moving anywhere near UCLA will cost you quite a bit. One bedroom and single apartments can cost $1,200 and much more. I would look into renting an apartment with someone you know, or renting a room from someone advertising for a roommate. Another option would be to find an apartment in the San Fernando Valley that is located near the 405 Freeway. However, be prepared to sit in bumper-to-bumper traffic for an hour to get over the hill to UCLA. There are other areas south of Westwood that are more economical also. They tend to be a bit on the seedy side, though. The Valley tends to give you the best bang for your buck, but driving in L.A. is a giant pain. Apartment hunting in L.A. can be very frustrating. I recommend that you start your search early and give yourself plenty of time to find a place before you actually need it.

Plan on 1000-1400/mo anywhere near UCLA...not bad if you can split it with someone. You can rent a room across town for 700 or so, but you'd end up closer to USC than UCLA
