Where can I go camping in Southern California?

Where else besides Pismo Beach, CA can i go camping and ATV bike riding at the same time in So. California?

  • Well Im planning a trip with the fam to Pismo Beach after my friend told me about the spot and I read up on it...it seems like a great place with everything I want, Camping, Beach, Atv's, and grilling! So Im pumped but what is a killer for some of my fam, not me at all, is the distance.... Is there some other camping place like it around southern cali that includes all this? I also heard that Pismo beach is the only camping ground around or beach that will allow Atv's on the area is this true? Just some advice and recommendations needed from people who have been there or other places like it....any help is appreciated...Thanks!

    It's either Pismo, or Glamis... and I prefer Pismo MUCH better. Glamis is only good October to March. Otherwise, it's just too blasted hot. (It's out in the desert, a couple hours past Palm Springs, south of I-10) Hey, everything around LA is built up, and we only have a couple OHV areas in the state, and the environmentalists are trying to close all of them down.

Try Ocotilla Wells State Vehicular Recreation Area just outside of Anza Borrego State Park. East of San Diego, almost to the Salton Sea. Great area, plus 4x4 trail access to the State Park (street legal vehicles only in the park itself). No Beach, and in a couple more weeks it will get very hot during the daytime. Best for Fall through Early Spring. Camping there or at the Salton Sea (if you really need a beach!). Pismo Beach is the only ocean-front ATV site in California, I believe. Otherwise its down to Baja California, San Felipe area is good.
