Where are bonfires LEGAL?

Where is a good beach near Woodland Hills California that allows bonfires and is open 24 hours?

  • I am trying to find a beach where my friends and I can sit on the beach enjoy a fire and dont have to leave at 10pm.I am willing to take a couple hours of driving to get there. If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.

    Short answer: Nowhere. There is NO beach in Socal that meets all your criteria. HOWEVER, if you change "bonfire" to "campfire", then you open up a lot of possibilities. If you go to one of the state beaches that allows camping, then you can reserve a beachfront campsite and spend the night. You'll have to keep your voices down after 10, but you can still have a very nice time. We go to Carpinteria all the time. It's about an hour from Woodland Hills via 101, and a great place to camp. You'll want to get a spot in the Santa Cruz section, if you want a spot right on the beach. But even if you don't get a beachfront site, you're steps away from the beach. People who stay up late are generally curteous and keep the noise down after 10, and everyone has a good time. Other beaches include El Capitan, Refugio, McGrath, and Broome. But Carp is the best. Make your reservation at www.reserveamerica.com. Note: Hit the site Jan 2 at 8:00 AM, or a little before. July campsites go on sale then. You may become hooked like us!

well if you're going from Woodland Hills you'll obviously have to drive through Las Virgenes pass, through the Santa Monica mountains and into Malibu, now most beaches are pay-and-park so they close at sunset. Try beaches north of Malibu in Ventura, we camped out in Carpenteria once, it was beautiful and yes we had a bonfire, you may also try Seacliff! go north on the 101 freeway just past Ventura and get off on Seacliff, it's a very small beach, the only access to it is by the 101 freeway
