Should LA start to construct Monorails to fix Public transit in the LA/Orange county areas?

• Having lived in the LA area and Toronto I feel Los Angeles public transit is a utter joke. The Trains here do not work and the roads are way to busy and spread out to have effective Cab system. I think if the city made a monorail starting at LAX going to Downtown LA then spreading to Long Beach, Anaheim, Hollywood to start with. would put alot of relief on traffic and fix the mess of public transit in the counties. I know it will cost a lot of money but it will save money by putting relief on I5 and the 4 or 5 mile per hour freeway. Your question is a valid one, and actually requires a long explanation to fully answer it. However, I'll try to be as kind as possible in pointing out the flaws: -Transit systems are more than just expensive. They are astronomical in nature. Subways, for example, cost a BILLION dollars per mile to construct. Yes, that's a B. -People like the idea of public transit unless it goes their neighborhood. These NIMBYs will fight to block any change to their area. Beverly Hills and South Pasadena have successfully fought against the state in freeway construction, and BH is fighting the subway extention. The NIMBY factor adds decades to a project. -Once it comes time to pay, you'll find people get angry. Are you willing to fork out an extra $500 per year for such a project? Think about it. Sure, it's nice to map out monorails/subways/light rail lines, but it's a very simplistic solution to a complex problem that started decades ago. --- I can see by your maps that this is not a serious question.
