Is the Standard hotel in Downtown L.A. good for gatherings?

Should I get a hotel in downtown la?

  • Is downtown la too ghetto, should I just get a hotel around downtown la. Or get a hotel by Hollywood. Or go by the beach in Hermosa, I want a good la experience.

    Hermosa definitely. Downtown is dirty, horrid, and crime ridden for the most part. Visit it if you must. The beach cities have way more to offer, mostly safer. I love Hermosa, Redondo, Manhattan. You could consider visiting the Santa Monica for the Promenade and pier fun. Their in walking distance of each other. Going south instead of to LA, Palos Verdes has some really cool beaches on the backside. Going more southern and easterly, Laguna Beach has great cool beaches, great shopping, the Sawdust Festival is not to be missed if its on while your there. Have fun in Cali

Since LA is so spread out, there is no single place that is close to EVERYTHING. Most people who come here tend to stay in Hollywood, Santa Monica, or Anaheim. In Hollywood, I recommend the Orchid Suites, Hollywood Celebrity Hotel, or Hollywood Heights (formerly Holiday Inn Walk of Fame), all near Hollywood and Highland. In Santa Monica, the Holiday Inn Santa Monica is close to the pier and reasonably priced. In Anaheim, I recommend the Howard Johnson (HoJo) Anaheim, and the Candy Cane Inn. There is also a nice place in Burbank called the Best Western Media Center, very close to Warner, NBC, and Universal Studios. Unlike other cities, downtown is NOT the place to be.

Downtown LA is good, but very expensive. Hotels there are significantly more expensive than other parts of the city, due to business traffic. But if you can afford it, I would stay there. Hollywood is good too. Hermosa is a bit out of the way, unless you just want to go to the beach all day.

You need transportation to get most out of LA. Everywhere you go can range to 30-45 minutes depending on the traffic. We have very long coastal beach and so much to offer. Newport beach is also nice.
