What beaches in California have white sand?

Are there any beaches in California that allow cars/trucks to park on the sand at the beach?

  • I have a 4X4 truck and wanted to take my wife to a beach where I could make dinner and park right up next to the water. I live in southern California, if there are any beaches like this close to me I'd love to know. Thanks for the help.

  • Answer:

Ask yourself "Who owns the sand between the high and low water marks" most likely nobody does so you can park on it for free. Just ensure you don't fall foul of the incoming tide.

Sorry, NOTHING close. Driving onto the beach at most locations will get you a REAL nasty ticket, and the local law enforcement will be all in your face and call you names. The only place I KNOW for sure is Oceano Dunes, just south of Pismo Beach. Take 101 north and exit at Arroyo Grande. Head south/west.

Between Half Moon Bay and Santa Cruz on Hwy 1 where you drive alongside the ocean, you can park in a lot next to the sand and sometimes on the sand.
