Can I camp anywhere on Catalina Island?

Where is your favorite spot to camp on Catalina Island?

  • Answer:

In Avalon Hermit Gulch is the only one but it gets roudy, packed in and the camp is super strict on the 10:00 quiet time (I almost got kicked out for sneezing at 10:03, no joke.) The free shutele into Avalon is convenient though. For a true camping experience, head to either Two Harbors, Little Harbor for some waves and (body)surfing,or up to the "mountains" of the island to Blackjack. Personally, have been to all 4 several times. Say hi to the buffalo for me.

Other answers

I don't know about anyone else, but I prefer Two Harbors campground, on the lee side of Catalina: http://www.visitcatalinaisland.com/twoHarbors/camp_twoHarbors.php It's only 1/4 mile from Two Harbors, which you can walk in just a few minutes. So just take the boat, get off, check in right in town, and enjoy! On clear days, you can see from Santa Barbara to San Diego!
