Is it worth going back to California?
-
Sorry if this question is an essay but I have a lot of things to explain. I used to live in California until 1999 and now I live in the east coast. I am enjoying myself in the east and I was happy with my high school and the fact that I am popular in my town. However, what's really annoying me is the summer weather, which I find is a JOKE. When it's hot, it's really hot. The humidity is so high that within minutes after going out I start to sweat and going back indoors I feel dirty. And as a bicyclist myself I frequently find myself covered in sweat. Plus, my sister sometimes say "you smell" to me which is a big pet peeve of mine. But this is not it. Would you like to know what I hate the most? Thunderstorms! They're so annoying and loud and I do recall recently being woken up at 4 AM by a set of thunderstorms. If I need to go outside it's really difficult for me, even if I am walking out of the building to get to the car. I occasionally have my electronics (such as my cell phone) malfunction because of this crap. I also hate the fact that storms and heavy rains are sudden and unexpected and sometimes while taking a walk or bike, I sometimes find myself stranded. In elementary school I was afraid of thunderstorms but then, while an adult, my phobia of thunderstorms suddenly came back when I was within a mile from a lightning flash as I walked into a convenience store. I mean, I was close to being killed by a lightning strike. Not to mention that the weather forecasts always say "thunderstorms" no matter what the actual weather turns out to be, and I sometimes want to say shut up to my radio when they talk about weather. Furthermore, I am a student pilot and I hate when my flight plans are suddenly interrupted due to weather. What I miss about California is the real sunshine. I mean a warm weather with no humidity and an early morning mist. And what is considered "heavy rain" in California, which is usually during winter time, is considered "light rain" in the east coast. I understand that there are earthquakes there but Californians are more prepared for an earthquake and large earthquakes are rare (not to mention I do recall while in 1st grade in Joe Nightingale School in Orcutt, California, we did a practice earthquake drill. And I have experienced the 1994 Northridge Earthquake, but it was a small earthquake at where I lived since I was more than 100 miles from the epicenter; that was the only earthquake I've experienced during my lifetime). Plus, I miss those nice quiet California central coast beaches, such as the Pismo Beach. Furthermore, I miss seeing palm trees and going on those very scenic drives being part of a regular routine (such as Highway 1 and the 101 Freeway). And in case you're wondering where in California I am considering, I am thinking about the central coast, mainly between Los Angeles and San Francisco (although definitely not in the city center). In your opinion, once I get my degrees, do you think it's worth it to accept a job in California and enjoy myself and the beautiful weather despite being homesick after leaving the east and my friends and nuclear family, and being far from the nearest ski area? Although I am no longer in touch with school friends in California, I am still friends with my old church friends. And my one uncle and two cousins and their spouses and children live in Los Angeles.

Answer:
= Pros and Cons of living in California = Pros: amazing weather all the time awesome beaches endless amount of attractions and things to do (disneyland, water sports, skiing, nature parks, six flags, sea world, etc.) good shopping lots of diversity and different people more laid-back atmosphere than other areas of the country fun nightlife Cons: super expensive high gas prices frequent wildfires landslides/mudslides (if you live on the coast) earthquakes depends which city you're in, but sometimes high rates of crime and bad public school systems

You're right about the essay. I got bored half way through the first paragraph. Anyhow. With today's current economic situation the LAST place on Earth you should move to is California. Hasn't your uncle, and cousins told you that?

IMO California is not the place to make a permanent residence. Trouble is the place will get TOO exciting in the near future -- when the Mexicans take over power in the Southwest and make it their own separate country. The place is already in the process of being overrun by them.

Hi there, if you wanna live on the Central Coast in California then I would say go for out. However, do you know what the job situation is going to be? You think you can get a job there? The Los Angeles metropolitan area is not what it used to be. We have bad air quality, horrible traffic, everything is overcrowed, and the cost of living is pretty high.

You can always try it for a while... remember this is a big country and really you can live wherever you want. I'd say, save some money, then try your luck. What's the worst that can happen? You don't find a job and have to move back with your family.

It seems your only reason for wanting to relocate to California is Weather. While I know, through experience, that California's weather is better than almost all other states, you will pay dearly for this luxury. In my opinion, being close to your family is more important than the weather. You may love the weather upon a move, but be awful lonely without being near the deep roots of your parents and siblings.
