Moving from Indiana to Los Angeles...?
-
My boyfriend and I have both just graduated from Purdue and are moving out to Los Angeles at the end of May this year. We are driving out there...yes, I know it is going to be a LONG drive. I was wondering if anyone might have some suggestions of places to stop along the way. Example: World's biggest ball of twine in City, State. I'd like to make it a fun road trip and plan on making a photo journal of the entire experience. Any suggestion is welcome! Even the weird ones! :D

I'd stop by and see the Grand Canyon if you can.

Since you'll go through St. Louis anyway, take a snapshot of the Gateway Arch. Just curious. How exactly do you think moving to Los Angeles will improve your life? L.A. is one of the MOST expensive cities to live in, and California has the country's 3d highest unemployment rate. It could take you a year or more to find a job. Unless the both of you are independently wealthy, as new college grads, you probably won't be able to afford living here for long. Any savings you have will quickly be gone. And PLEASE do not say "I wanna be an actress". Some may say I'm crushing your dreams. I prefer to think I'm explaining the REALITY you will face by moving here.

To add to Peedlepup's suggestion of the St. Louis Arch, you can take an elevator ride to the top and get a panoramic view of the Midwest. It's an elevator where you're strapped in and sitting down while you take the slow, curved ride up to the top. In the bustling metropolis of Sedan, KS you can see their version of the Yellow Brick Road. It's actually a sidewalk and you can buy a brick with your names on it to be placed along with all of the others. They have a Wizard of Oz gift shop. If you like clowns than while in Sedan you can visit the museum honoring native son Emmett Kelly. Eat BBQ in Kansas City or have a steak at Jess and Jim's. Western Kansas and Eastern Colorado are flat and there isn't much to see. While in Las Vegas stop in at the Atomic Testing Museum, the Neon Museum, Erotic Heritage Museum and the Pinball Hall Of Fame. There is more to Vegas than gambling! In Baker, CA you can see the world's largest thermometer. For more weird stuff look on the websites below. The are dedicated to America's oddball roadside attractions.

Your route with out going way the F out of your way does not take you by the big ball of twine. I70 to St Louis(Gateway to the west), I44 to OKC, I40 by the Grand Canyon, into Ca I15 south to I10. Now on the serious note. You have jobs lines up? Southern Cali has some of the highest unemployment in the country, as well as some of the highest rent, taxes and living expenses in the entire country. I beg/urge you to really thing about this. Even if you had 40K saved up it would not last you 6 months. Rent will be $1000/mo, gas is over$4/gal. Email me I lived there for 35 years.

Definitely the Grand Canyon. I has to be experience to be appreciated. If you are the least bit claustrophobic, you might not want to go the top of the St Louis arch in those tiny pods. However you travel be aware of the weather where you plan to be the next day and be flexible if it looks really bad along you planned route.
