::::How hard is it to find a job in California:::?

  • how hard would it be to find a job in California (los angeles area) a job such as a grocery job..fast food...warehouse...? Im not looking for like a carrer to jump into ..just a job that pays around 10 ... 11 an hour .. i have a good resume and an associates with managment experience.... just in general how tough is it to find a steady job like warehousing or food?

  • Answer:

Consider 17%+ unemployment in Los Angeles .. And me out of work since Last May.. Do the math . If you think you got a shot go for it. keep in mind The Cost Of living is outrageous here. If you decide to move here, PLAN on bringing anywhere from 25 to 30K.. If you don't bring at least that much, don't even bother showing up.

Michigan is #1 in unemployment, and CA is #2. So if getting a job in MI is like trying to crack a diamond with your teeth, getting a job in California is only like cracking a walnut with your teeth.

Unfortunately the economy is terrible in California, I'm a credentialed unemployed teacher, I have a degree and a couple years of experience under my belt and guess what, I'm living off of my unemployment benefits right now! If people with college degrees have a hard time finding jobs, what makes you think you'll be hired? I'm not trying to sound mean, just giving you a bit of a reality check, and yes California is probably the most expensive state to live in, behind NY, so if you're looking at $10-$11 an hour you're basically looking for the most remedial low paying job around where the only way you'll be able to live anywhere is to live in a 2 bedroom apartment in a bad area with like 6 other room mates! Good Luck!

I second the one that said move to Texas. You cannot survive in Los Angeles on $10 / hour even if you could find a job. I moved to the DFW area from Southern California because it has gotten too expensive and too much of a hassle to live there. Los Angeles is only a good place to live if you have millions of dollars in the bank.

Very hard to find a job! Unfortunately, people with higher qualifications are taking the jobs you're considering right now, because they've been laid off from their good paying jobs. In N Out pays about $10 an hour after a few months. My college student niece works at one and likes it. (North of LA, similar living expenses.) Surprising since she is totally a princess. (Which is probably how she beat out the competition for the job, they had many applicants, but she's too cute and she is a really hard worker and has been working since she was 14.) Restaurants have laid off many employees, and some have gone out of business, no one is eating out. Lots of unemployed out there with great resumes. Figure out the difference in cost of living. You might be shocked. Here are a couple of calculators: http://www.bestplaces.net/COL/ http://cgi.money.cnn.com/tools/costofliving/costofliving.html You'd have a really hard time living on $10 an hour. My niece drives a scooter, rents a cheap room in a condo from a family friend, has her insurance, clothes, some groceries, 100% of college, and many expenses subsidized by relatives. She couldn't do it without family paying for a lot of basic expenses, and she has been very good with her money. Is there someplace else cheaper to live with better job prospects you might consider? Good luck!

VERY!! I had 2 people come in today asking for a job. If you want a guaranteed place to get a job, go to Texas.

You would be surprised by how little you can buy in LA or SF with $10/11 per hour. The min. wage in SF is $9.73 and even ppl earning $23/hr complain about not enough money. Hey, this is America and you are welcome to try to find a job in Calif. You might have more luck in a state with lower unemployment (46 of them have lower unemployment than CA). Also, be prepared for culture shock. Coming from the Midwest, you'd think that ppl living and collecting welfare can speak some English or at least broken English. In many big Calif cities, there are plenty of ppl who cannot speak one word of English. Unbelievable!
