Are there any Job Openings for a Nurse?

Would it be easy to move to america as a nurse with a master's degree from new zealand?

  • Ok so I want to be a nurse practitioner and there aren;t many job openings for them here, In my country (New Zealand) there are currently only 50 in my country! I have always wanted to become a nurse but I won't become one if there are no higher steps, I want to eventually become a nurse practitioner. But I don't want to get my masters and not be able to get a job in that area because there aren't many job opportunities..if I get my masters in nursing and have barely any experience as nurse practitioner can I still immigrate to other countries like America?

  • Answer:

Usually I would answer "No" when someone from another country asks about moving to the U.S. . The United States is in a deep recession, with 1 in 9 Americans out of a job. To qualify for a work visa you would need an advanced university degree, and years of experience in fields like Medicine, Engineering, or Computer Technology. Trades and crafts workers will NOT qualify. Too many unemployed Americans are looking for those of jobs. In your case YOU stand a good chance of qualifying. You will have the advanced degree, and in a field needed in the U.S. Currently some hospitals in the U.S are bringing in Nurses from the Philippines to fill vacancies in that field. Get that degree, and put in applications to as many U.S, hospitals, or private practice doctors, and clinics as you can. You will need one of them to sponsor your work visa. Good Luck to you, and be patient, The process can take several years to complete, and once here you will have to pass the board test for the U.S. state you choose to practice in.

Other answers

The first answer is correct. It may be easier to first go to work for a "travel nurse" service. Search " travel nursing usa" for many links. Your nursing school should also be able to provide referrals. Good luck!

Although Peedlepup makes some very good points I would not call it easy and you may want to see what the state of our healthcare system is at that time or perhaps not move to LA. I work for several hospitals here. Several hospitals have closed their doors here in the last 10 years due to lack of money. Others have stopped their nursing teaching and recurring programs as well.
