Which place has a higher standard of living? NYC or Southern California?

Biggest bunch of stereotypes and BS ever. Most of what you say has no basis in fact. But if you want, you can also post it in the NYC forum.

New Yorkers get around by subway and taxi, and Southern Californians get around with luxury cars = correct NYC has entrepreneurs, and Southern California has celebrities = California has the 5th biggest economy in the world, the other 4 are countries including the USA. You don't create this by having "celebrities". "celebrities" are a very small part of Los Angeles. Ask an average SoCal resident when the last time they saw a celeb = many have never seen one. NYC has four seasons, and Southern California has warm weather the full length of the year = SoCal like every place on earth has 4 seasons... they just don't happen to be traditional seasons. At a minimum we have "green" & "brown" = green occurs from the winter rains until it becomes sun baked. NYC has Times Square, and Southern California has Hollywood Hills = SoCal's equvalient to Times Square is Hollywood Blvd! They really are very much alike including when they are are awake & asleep. I've been to Times Square multiple times on a week night in the winter at 10pm and it was very quiet. $1 million can buy you an Upper East Side apartment overlooking Central Park in Manhattan with 24-hour vibe just outside the lobby, $1 million can buy you a 4-bedroom house in a quiet area in Pasadena = incorrect. I don't think $1M will buy you anything in either of those neighborhoods. NYC has NYU and a couple others in the top 100, and Southern California has Caltech = Just like NYC has more than NYU (i.e. it's called Columbia #4, have you heard of it... it's ranked higher than NYU #3)... What Los Angeles has CalTech #5, USC #23, UCLA #25, Occidental #37(liberal arts). If we include all of SoCal the list is bigger than UCSB, UCSD, UCI, Pepperdine Loyola Marymount, the Claremount Colleges. New Yorkers love cops because when Giuliani hired so many of new ones, they shed NYC's reputation of a crime-ridden city. Southern Californians don't, because it's rare they can go 5 years without getting a traffic citation. It's no wonder why California's crime rate is much higher than New York State's, because the cops in Southern California spend too much time enforcing traffic laws and not enough time catching REAL lawbreakers, like drunk people who beat others up in the Trader Joe's parking lot and dope dealers! = sorry, but I don't know anyone who dislike cops. NYC & LA are completely different in terms of the type of population, environment, terrain, the types of crime. You are not comparing apples to apples... But isn't Trader Joe's the 2nd happiest place on earth ~ why would there be fights that need to be broken up?!? New Yorkers are obsessed with culture (e.g. museums, performing arts, fine restaurants), and Southern Californians are obsessed with the beach and theme parks. - So not true!! I am a native LA resident. I travel OFTEN to NYU for business. Maybe it's just the people I interact with there but no one really utilizes what NYC has to offer. I'm sure there are some but it's not a predominate feature!! I know my "group" in LA is "special" it's comprised of highly educated individuals, writers, journalists = we are constantly using the same types of cultural events that exist in NYC. And NYC has NOTHING that can remotely compare to the Hollywood Bowl!! NYC has New York, New York sung by Frank Sinatra, and Southern California has California Dreamin' sung by The Mamas and the Papas. (notice that I didn't use California "Gurls" by Katy Perry as the example for Southern California, you know the reason why, but if you don't, tell me in your answer and I'll tell you in additional info) - Sorry but our theme song is "I LOVE LA" NYC has a fast-paced lifestyle, and Southern California has a laid back lifestyle = another one right. That makes 2!! But none of this has anything to do with a "standard of living" - A standard of living means The level of wealth, comfort, material goods and necessities available to a certain socioeconomic class in a certain geographic area. Both LA & NYC have a horrible standard of living compared to more suburban areas. Let's take a successful stock broker or management consultant = the one who lives in Omaha, Cinninati, Portland, Atlanta, etc will ALWAYS have a better standard of living than someone on the same level in LA, NYC, Boston, DC, Seattle or Downtown Chi -- the small town money just goes farther.

Sorry, Tom. One misconception to clear up. Southern California is NOT warm all year long. We do have a noticeable Winter season. It just rarely ever snows due to the low elevation. I'm responding at 4:45 am Pacific time, and my furnace just kicked on.

Beverly Hills, CA is so freaking expensive. I mean freaking $20 million mansions
