How's life in San Luis Obispo?

What can you tell me about san luis obispo and the surrounding areas?

  • My wife and I are planning on moving to san luis obispo in late december. I am a waiter in casual/fine dining and my wife is a hair dresser. We're 24 & 23. San luis obispo seems like a great community for us. We're ready to get out of WA and start a life and a family. Trails are important to me as well because I run ultra marathons. what can you tell me about san luis and/or the surrounding areas? Thank you

  • Answer:

BEFORE YOU MAKE THAT MOVE: I hope you have jobs ready, because I can guarantee you that won't find a job immediately. That's how bad the economy still is down here. Now that you got that in mind, let's assume you do. If you do, SLO is definitely a GREAT AREA to live in if you don't mind living in a city that closes after 10:00PM and don't mind clubbing in the ONLY CLUB in the area that's mediocre. If those things don't bother you, then you'll be fine. It is a college town, keep that in mind, with Cal Poly and Cuesta College students roaming through the town. As far as trails? There's LOTS of areas for you to roam around. San Luis Obispo is exercise friendly with trails and bike lanes everywhere. If cost is a big factor, keep in mind that SLO is expensive to live in. There are alternatives for lower priced areas like: Paso Robles and Atascadero (the cheapest areas), Grover Beach and Arroyo Grande (more expensive areas but not as expensive as SLO.) Also, don't worry about crime. We have by far the LOWEST crime nationwide no matter where in San Luis Obispo County you choose to live. Gang activity consists of people who pretend they're the baddest of the bad, when in reality the worst they do is tag and tagging is not even a frequent problem at all. Bottom Line: San Luis Obispo, and the surrounding areas, are for people who like things nice and chill. This area is not for people who are expecting a loud and vibrant setting where downtown is roaring and you can scream downtown along with everybody. Oh, and SLO has a STRICT noise complaint rule where they ticket you a crazy amount if you violate it. No joke. ------------------------ Im way cooler in real life. - That's my answer for living here too! So glad to know I'm not alone!

I dont have much to say anything nice about san luis obispo except for Oak trees are pretty. Morro Bay is nice and there are some nice hiking places. But other than that its boring and really a waste of time.
