What are some good colleges in Southern California (near Hollywood)??
-
I'm thinking of moving there when I turn 23 if there's enough money. So I need to know what colleges are good and accept scholarship money in SoCal in the Malibu/ Hollywood/ LA region. Also-- if they aren't way out out there expensive that's a good thing! Hopefully something that specializes in Music or Acting. Thanks in advance!!

Answer:
If you don't want way out there expensive, definitely don't even think about U$C. They are incredibly overpriced. UCLA has a great music and theater school, plus its cheaper AND an all around better school. In a much better neighborhood too!

Little premature, aren't we? That's about 9 years down the road, according to your other question: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ak07IQ6ZGkKw_3wYqmsY5S_sy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20080120214914AAg0zir If you're looking for universities, then UCLA, Loyola Marymount, and Pepperdine are on the west side area that you mentioned. You should have plenty of time to do the research. Good luck!

Pepperdine University is a good college in Malibu, California. It is however, private, Conservative Christian (Church of Christ) and is somewhat isolated from the rest of Los Angeles. UCLA is in Westwood and is of course, a famous public school with excellent academics. USC is in "the heart of L.A." (downtown...) and is similar to UCLA's academics/athletics, but pricey since it's private. It's also in a more crime-ridden area of Los Angeles, so you may want to consider that as well. Also, Santa Monica College is a community college that you can attend for 2 years and transfer to a large university (its #1 for transfers to UCLA & USC).

aren't you supposed to be DONE with school by 23? Stay local and study there. Save your money for after you graduate and counselors can guide you to good acting schools for your post-grad work. There you can hook up with local stock theaters, etc. UCLA (State school...not private) has one of the best Fine Arts programs and a wonderful film school. Good luck!

Suggest USC or UCLA. Don't waste your time on anything less. Both are near Hollywood and accept scholarship money.

USC, Loyola Marymount and Pepperdine are the private universities here, and UCLA is the major 4-year university state school. They're all good schools, and they all have music and acting programs. UCLA is probably the closest to Hollywood. Hollywood is not a pretty place, though, and there's actually only one studio there. The other studios are spread throughout the city. To me, Pepperdine in Malibu is in the prettiest location, but it's $$$$ because it's private. There are some great community colleges here, too. Santa Monica City College is considered to be one of the best jr. colleges in the country, and it's fairly inexpensive for Cal residents. If you're from another state, I'd move here, work for a while and establish residency and then go. You can transfer to UCLA or a private school fairly easily after you get your AA. This would save you heaps of $$$$ over going straight to one of the private schools. Take care!

Well i'm studying in a college here in southern CA...i think all colleges can accept schorlarship because it's money and what they want is that you pay for your clases. Also you can apply for other schorlarship as well. I don't know about colleges around Hollywood.....i think West Los Angeles College is there. Right now i'm in East Los Angeles College and i know they have a good program to both music and acting. The area where this college is not too bad cuz' is boundering Monterey Park. So you are a little bit away from the ugly East LA lol i suggest you to check this website and look for those college that are around the west side of LA. Look carefully cuz' this website has all california community colleges http://www.cccco.edu/CommunityColleges/CollegeListings/CollegeListingsAlphabetical/tabid/643/Default.aspx Hope my answer helps EDIT well if you're looking for something "high" just go to USC or UCLA.... You should be CLEAR making your question cuz' i see you want a UNIVERSITY instead of College.....They're 2 different things! aren't they?
