Is there any snow for skiing at Big Bear, CA?

Are there great cheap snow mountain resorts in California?

  • My family & I want to go see snow this year. I've looked into Big Bear, Mammoth & Mountain High but they all seem really expensive. I have an 18 month old and we don't want to buy lift tickets because we wont be able to do anything since we have him with us. We just want to go & enjoy the snow without snowboarding or skiing or any other activities. Are there any resorts that will allow us to just pay a small amount to walk around or ice skate or something? None of the sites specify any amounts besides rentals & lift prices.

  • Answer:

I don't know of any ice rinks in Big Bear. If you just want to walk around in the snow, you can find many forest areas on the road to Big Bear for free. Magic Mountain Alpine Slide has innertubing, which is fun for kids.

I highly doubt it. Why not go to Yosemite? That will be inexpensive and won't be crowded, either. You likely won't be able to go around the entire park, as some roads close for the winter, but it would still be beautiful. The National Park Service website has more info.
