How hard is it to get in UCLA for master study ?

  • Hi & thanks for reading, I am international student & I want to pursue my education in master of fine art & I also need scholarship (or other type of financial aid like teacher assistant/ student work & …) Do you think I have good chance to get in USLA with GPA of 3.75/4.00 , TOEFL ibt score: 88 , 2 years job experience , 2 awards ,6 exhibitions & good portfolio ??? What do you think? What else do I need to become eligible??? i really want to get in UCLA for master study.

  • Answer:

The UCLA MFA program only admits about 3% of applicants. This is common for all of the prestigious colleges. So chances are not good for anyone. The six areas of specialization at UCLA are Ceramics, Interdisciplinary Studio, New Genres, Painting and Drawing, Photography, and Sculpture. There is no needs-based financial aid for international students at UCLA, but there are merit scholarships available from different sources. However, they are extremely competitive, you can find out about them on UCLA's website. While most/all MFA students received some type of merit support, it is typically little compared to the cost of attendance, tuition alone is about $32,000 an academic year. You will need bank proof of about $50,000 in a cash account to get a visa. They suggest that you have thousands $ more, as $50,000 really is a minimum, and most students can't live on that amount. You just made it for the TOEFL iBT total minimum passing score of 87. What about each section minimum? * Writing: 25 * Speaking: 24 * Reading: 21 * Listening: 17 * Total minimum passing score: 87 UCLA MFA Art http://www.gdnet.ucla.edu/gasaa/pgmrq/art.asp http://www.art.ucla.edu/graduate/admissions.html International Grad Student http://www.gdnet.ucla.edu/gasaa/admissions/INTLREQT.HTM You might look at Art Center in Pasadena, but I think their minimum total TOEFL iBT might be 100. http://www.artcenter.edu/accd/programs/graduate.jsp http://artcenter.edu/gradart/ Good luck!

You would not be eligible for financial aid as an international student. If you can get private scholarships or figure out how to pay yourself, you should apply. Otherwise, there is now reason to waste your time.
