Hollywood bowl Super seats?

Back Seats in Hollywood Bowl still enjoyable?

  • I bought tickets to see Coldplay at the Hollywood Bowl May 4th at 7pm. I bought two so I could go see it with my friend, unfortunately, the only seat that was available was the dead last row. I could get a closer seat if I bought a ticket by myself, but who wants to go alone? Anyway, will it still be enjoyable from that far out (this is my first concert btw). Also, should I bring anything like binoculars so I can see?

  • Answer:

I would bring binoculars, but there are huge video screens on the sides about half way up, so you won't just be looking at the stage. (Some artists, like Paul McCartney, have amazing even huger screens, but most just use the Bowl screens.) I haven't sat through a whole concert in the back, but I've gone up to the back just to check it out in case that's all I could get in the future, and it seemed fine. The higher up you go, it seems the more friendly your benchmates are. You should have a very enjoyable time! During the old's concerts, (Paul McCartney, Rod Stewart/Stevie Nicks, James Taylor/Carly Simon, etc) there was a lot of *smoking* going on in the back, more than at other concerts. Considering the average age, must have been medical.... Check the weather (it can get chilly in the hills), look at the rules for what you're allowed to bring (Coldplay is a Lease Event), like what size picnic basket. Take the escalator and moving sidewalk if you aren't in the mood for a hike (wear comfy shoes). I have never had problems taking photos or videos with my iphone, even when it stated photography was not allowed. It varies by artist, but generally as long as you don't have a long lens camera or big video camera, they seem fine with it. Everyone was filming at all the concerts I've been to. (If security complained, I would have just put away my iphone and apologized and said I didn't know.) Arrive a bit early because there is a security check (usually just a quick look in your bags, but metal detectors too for Clinton's birthday concert), sometimes it can be slow. Taking the buses is the best idea (see Visit website), driving is a big mistake, as there is only stack parking so you can't leave until everyone around you leaves (it can take forever), and it's expensive. Let me ask you this: Is it all about the music, or the artist? They call it the Bowl because the land itself is shaped like a bowl, and has excellent acoustic qualities. For many such concerts, they have giant screens so that those of you in the back can see the face of the artists. You can bring binoculars if you want, but they aren't necessary IMHO.
