A cheap mini vacation destination in or near Georgia?

Ideas for a family mini-vacation..California...?

  • We are planning on talking our family on a mini-vation this April - we're looking for some ideas. Here are some of the details: The trip would be 4 days total (Mon-Thurs) Our kids are ages 12, 10, & 5 We are in Southern California We do not want to go to Disneyland The destination does not have to be in southern California. We could spend a day or a half traveling We'd probably go as far up as Monterey (been there), and as south as San Diego (not been there). Any ideas would be appreciated. Thank You.

    San Diego is actually quite interesting. With four days you could try driving to Yosemite National Park, King's Canyon or the Grand Canyon.

Why not try Monterey again? Did you visit the Aquarium? You could also try whale watching, kayaking or bike riding along the coastal recreation trail. Pacific Grove and Carmel also have tons of stuff to do are both within 10-15 minutes from Monterey. In Pacific Grove you could visit the Monarch Grove Butterfly Sanctuary or hang out at Lovers Point Beach. In Carmel you could visit the Carmel Mission or go on hike at Point Lobos. San Diego is very nice. Sea World is great, and so is Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo. You also have Coronado Island. If you have the bucks, stay at the Hotel Del Coronado. VERY nice. Check out sandyeggo.com for SD tips. Yosemite is wonderful, but it's a 9-10 hour drive just getting there. Mammoth is fun for a ski trip, but the snow's pretty bad this year.
