Is there any snow for skiing at Big Bear, CA?

Where to see snow near Los Angeles? With dog?

  • I just moved to Van Nuys from Florida and have never seen snow. I'd like to take my dog with me (he's never seen it either) and just go spend a little time playing around in the snow. Take a little video of the dog in the snow, perhaps. No skiing or anything like that. Since I'd like to take my dog, I assume the usual places I've seen suggested like Big Bear and the Palm Springs Tramway are out. Any public areas that might be dog friendly that I can drive up to? Preferably without snow chains on my truck, as I've never even seen a set of snow chains, much less used them! Thanks.

    There is almost no snow in California at all yet this winter. The 10 day forecast has it staying fairly warm so it's not going to snow anytime soon. When it does snow you can take your dog to Big Bear - it's just a city in the mountains. You obviously can't take him on the ski slopes but you can walk him around the lake, etc.

Idk how close it is to you but I usually take my dog to Mount Baldy. It's a recreational area with just snow and a lot of families. No skiing or anything like that. Although this year there hasn't been much snow at all. I would say you will have to wait a little bit and see if it snows. I have also never used chains there either.

Nothing right now since it's dry unless you want to hit the ski slopes. However, if it gets cold enough you can just go up 5 freeway and see snow in the grapevine.

Drive into the mountains. Don't drive high enough that you need chains.
