Where is a good place to live in Southern California?

  • I'm thinking of moving to California. Although being from the east coast, I don't know anyone or even know much about where a good place to move in Southern California. I've looked quite a bit but I can't tell whether any of the places I've sought out, like Santa Monica, Oceanside, numerous parts of LA, etc, are any good. I'm not looking to move into the hood and as far as rent goes, maybe with one other room mate I could afford a place that's $2500 a month. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm a normal dude, white, 27, almost 28 years old and am interested in music and live music. I also love the beach.

    Wherever that good paying job leads you to is where you should move. Moving to California with no job is not a smart idea.

Don't listen to them below! It depends, everywhere you go you'll always have problems! Drugs, gangs etc are everywhere. California is now where... Their is no middle man! You either are poor or rich! Anyways, Laguna beach, New Port Beach, Costa Masa, Westwood, Santa Barbra, Tustin, Sunny hills. Laguna beach and Westwood are exstremely nice! If you make below 100k a year you won't last long

We get this question all the time, and the answer is always the same: Live as close to your job as possible. It doesn't matter where you live, if you're close to your job. The traffic is the worst thing about living here, and the less time you spend in it, the higher your QoL is. And wherever you are, it's not hard to find your interests if you are in the LA area. Santa Monica is great, if you can afford it. Oceanside is a lttile too honkytonk for me. Not much there but Marines and their family.

Long Beach, Newport Beach, Huntington Beach, Santa Barbara, San Francisco. All these are good places to live.
