Where are the cheapest apartments in the US?

Does anyone know anything about the Marquee Apartments in North Hollywood? Where are safe apartments nearby?

• Moving to the LA area for the first time and need to know safe apartments, possibly 2 bedrooms under $1500/month. Really want to know what areas/communities are safe and clean.

Most of the valley is at least reasonable, except the Pacoima area. Hollywood, on the other side of the Hollywood Hills is about the same as North Hollywood. Decent but a bit run-down. It's not as hot as the valley, but there is more traffic congestion. I live in the Los Feliz area (northwest of Vermont and Sunset) which I find quiet. There are a lot of good apartments in the Koreatown area (around Wilshire and Vermont), if you don't mind having a lot of Korean neighbors. Glendale is nice (except the extreme southern end), though it has a heavily Armenian population. I think the western end of Torrance is good. The apartment business is very competitive so you generally get what you pay for. The more you pay, the better the neighborhood and the better the apartment. The monthly rent is generally an excellent indicator of how good the apartment is.
