What are the kids like in LA and especially in Beverly Hills?

We're going on vacation there this summer and I'm wondering. How do they dress? Are they nice? Does everything in Beverly Hills cost a fortune? Are all the restaurants and stores there super expensive? Do you have to look nice to go shopping there? I really want to eat there and buy something. Please tell me places that aren't too pricey. By kids I mean teenagers, not little kids. ok, thanks.

As others have said in their posts, there are some really chill, awesome people in BH, and there are some who are totally full of themselves and obnoxious. I think it's the way you're raised more than your family's finances that makes you a spoiled and annoying person with an attitude. I lived in BH when I was younger, & my boyfriend grew up there. He's one of the most kind-hearted, mellow, respectful and gracious people I've ever known. Most of the ppl I know there are great, actually. I think the way we dress is slightly different than the way kids in the Valley or the tourists dress in that we're not as into Hollister & A&F. When I was in Nashville last week I was surprised that nearly every girl was dressed head-to-toe in clothes from one of those stores. There's nothing wrong with that, it's just different. Right now everybody's wearing sun dresses here. We are waaaaaay more casual than NYC girls, and you definitely don't have to dress up for BH. I was running all around there yesterday in yoga capris & a wrinkly tank top. Nobody cared......not even at Barneys. You can go into any of the stores there. You only have to have an appointment if you want a personal shopper at Saks or Barneys or are going to the salon. Not everything in BH costs a fortune. The shops on Beverly Dr are way less expensive (and WAY more youthful) than the ones on Rodeo. The north part of Robertson has some extremely pricey stores - like Kitson - but if you continue south on Robertson you'll find a cool store called It's a Wrap that sells the wardrobe from movies & tv shows, and you can find some of the best deals in town there. You'd probably be surprised at the number of reasonably priced restaurants in BH! On Little Santa Monica there's The Nosh and the Beverly Hills Diner along with a few chain restaurants like Baja Fresh that are all reasonable. That's where you'll also find Sprinkles, the little cupcake place Oprah & Katie Holmes made famous, and Crumbs which is SO much better than Sprinkles, Pinkberry (fro-yo) & gelato. On N. Beverly Dr. there's the Farm of BH, which sells the most amazing brownies on the planet. On South Beverly there are tons of affordable places. Marty D's, Burger 90210, Beverlitz Cafe, Bossa Nova, Mulberry Pizza, another Pinkberry and so many other places. My favorite is Urth, this coffeehouse / cafe that's inside this old renovated house. I've never had anything there that wasn't awesome. Be sure to check out the beautiful Greystone Mansion while you're here. It's this huge, gorgeous mansion where a ton of movies have been shot, and it's owned by the city of BH as a public park. You can't go into the mansion, but you can walk around the gorgeous grounds and have a picnic. It's totally free. Have an awesome time here! : )

Look at the younger celebrities in magazines like US Weekly, Star, People....(Lindsay Lohan, etc)....this is how teenagers in Beverly Hills dress. Huge sunglass, big handbags, designer jeans, etc. Like all teenagers, some are nice and some aren't. Think of all the people in your school -- everyone has a different personality. It's not different here. Beverly Hills has lots of high-end shopping, but you can go anywhere in LA, you don't just have to stay in Beverly Hills. Go to the Grove (a mall at Fairfax and Third), Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica, Melrose Ave in West Hollywood and Robertson Blvd in West Hollywood/Beverly Hills. Enjoy! PS -- people are pretty laid back and friendly in LA -- much nicer than they are back east.

I live in L.A. and have a few friends in Beverly Hills, so I'm there on occasion. I would say I'm pretty normal, lol. I'm a regular cali girl, nothing special. I bet we have a lot in common. Most people here are pretty chill and down to earth, but, of course you will find some stuck-ups and spoiled brats with tons of dough in the nice parts of L.A. and B.H. Some parts of L.A. are really nice and very upper-class, while other parts, like downtown L.A. are full of crime and whatnot. I am lucky to say that I live in a nice part of L.A., but I certainly can not afford a lot of things in Beverly Hills! And, yes, everything in B.H. costs a fortune, lol. I'm not going to lie to you. It consists of upper-class people that can definitely afford that Chanel purse or a watch that costs 50 grand. That's just what I have found from personal experience and hearing about it's culture. And, yes, a lot of people do tend to dress up to go shopping in B.H., it's not like a local mall. BUT, don't lose hope. You can have fun in Beverly Hills without a ton of money. Just find cafe's and restaurants that are on the less pricy side (they CAN be found). And there are stores that do sell clothing, souveniers, etc. at reasonable prices, you just have to look for them and ignore stores like D&G and whatnot. Have fun, and don't be discouraged. You don't need money to have fun, even in Beverly Hills or the nice parts of L.A.

All the kids are PERSIAN!! and maybe asian
OMG.
they dress fashionably. they're nice, they're not like new york's high society kids. nope. not everything in beverly hills costs a lot. but almost everything does. there's actually a 99 cents store in beverly hills, no joke. but besides that yeah. in beverly hills, yes. almost all the stores and restaurants are super pricey. and some of the stores, especially the high fashion designer ones around rodeo drive, you actually have to make an appointment to even go inside. if you want to eat and shop in la without breaking the bank. you should go to hollywood. a lot of hip restaurants and shops that are really nice yet affordable. i don't know if you like sushi but there's the geisha house on hollywood boulevard. it's nice and affordable. but i suggest you make an appointment. just in case. you can do it online. melrose avenue is a great place to shop. marc by marc jacobs on melrose is a cool place. you can get cool stuff like an mj t shirt for 30 dollars or mj rain boots for 28[?] and maybe an mj tote bag for 12 dollars. they also have necklaces for like 10 and wallets for like 20. there's also the grove at fairfax and 3rd. nice shops and restaurants there.

I grew up in Beverly Hills and when I went to college, it really wasn't that big of a difference. Like Melissa wrote, there are nice people and not-so-nice people, just like anywhere you go. And while the brand name stores are pricey, they can be fun to look around in. I would suggest going to Sprinkles, which is a cupcake bakery on Little Santa Monica. If you want to buy a souvenier, maybe try going to the Museum of Television and radio.I hope you enjoy your visit!
