Has anyone been to the Red Rooster in Las Vegas? What was it like?

Tips from anyone that lives in Las Vegas currently or has recently moved there?

  • My boyfriend ans I are contemplating whether or not to move to Las Vegas from Southern California. I am ready to relocate and California is much too expensive right now from the gas to the cost of living. I love to visit Las Vegas and I do have friends that live there and love it, I just would like to here any tips or any advice anyone has for me who is not my friend. : ) What are some things you like about living in Las Vegas? Some things you hate? Is it pretty affordable? Where are some nice areas to live? Thank you all so much for your time!

I am originally from detroit, and am a professional in my early thirties. I consider myself to be well rounded- I am educated, and career focused, but I consider myself hip, trendy, and very urban. I like to hang out, have a good time. My experience in vegas (for one year now) has been mixed at best. I am not sure what you and your boyfriend do for a living- if you will be working in the entertainment industry in any form (service, performance, etc.) it can be a lot of fun here. Income tends to be well above average for these types of jobs here, and the city's young professional crowd is typically in a service based industry. But be wary- if you are coming here to "find" industry based jobs, be ready to jump through hoops, and also be disappointed. This is largely bc (and I'm not saying this to be a jerk) if you aren't hot, you won't get one of these jobs. It's just the way it goes here. They hire all big breasted super hot girls in every entertainment or serviced based job here. It's just reality. It is especially a disaster for guys- I know many people here with tons of entertainment experience, and they got passed over for girls who had zero experience and some could hardly speak english! If you are professionals (teachers, lawyers, nurses whatever) i can attest that this is a strange place to live. The gaming and entertianment industry throws everything off- it's so focused on casinos out here. I have met many people here that I have hung out with, but many are in entertainment. They live a much different lifestyle than me; I find it harder and harder to find quatlity relationships bc of this. I'm not saying i'm better than them, it's just different. Sometimes I just want to be around simpler people, and hang out somewhere that the majority of people are like me- similar lifestyle, similar tastes, similar background. It really is hard in this city to find that. If you both are into a the party scene, and want to be around nightlife, and really think the strip life is what you want, you could have fun here. Especially if you know quality people her already, that could give you a sense of familiarity right away. There is undeniably great nightlife here- impeccable restaraunts, shows, and some of the best clubs in the world. It is certainly much cheaper than OC, but I would consider my life to be much richer if I lived there, rather than here. Don't forget, outside of the strip, Vegas is really just a fairly boring, big desert suburb. Frankly, the best amenity in this city is it's accesibility to hiking and the Lake, at least that's how I feel after living here a year. Compared to OC, there is so much less culture here, and certainly a hell of a lot less to do here (aside from night life). If you are looking for more of a balanced lifestyle, you might want to consider Phoenix. It is a much better similance of a normal urban setting. Hope that helps, and good luck!

Been in Vegas for decades and the traffic, gang activity and crime from people moving from CA is not appreciated. The prices are relative to CA except no income tax and lower sales tax. There are better areas than others. Check areas like Green Valley in Henderson; The Lakes, Piccolle Ranch, Summerlin, and Rhodes Ranch in Vegas. Remember you will need a car because there is no public transportation system that goes everywhere in the valley. Check out www.lasvegasnow.com for links and prices of apartments

DONT GO TO THE STRIP ON NEW YEARS ITS CRAZY

Jasmine S

I am 26 and haved lived here for 6 months. I am a business prefessional and I like to have fun on the weekends. I have noticed people here (locals) are not all that friendly and are VERY aggressive drivers that drive generally 20mph over the limit and never signal lane changes. There are a ton of hit and runs and crime is high. I dont hate it here, the sun is always shinning, but it has been difficult meeting 'good' people here. Some areas are nice but the city isnt the best when it comes to keeping everything clean. If its not on the strip, what do they care? Rent is a bit cheaper that So Cal. I have a 860 sq ft one bed condo and I pay 800. I live in a decent area. The club scene is obviously hot, but be prepared to spend alot!!!!! If you like to party you will need to watch yourself or you wont last long here. Employers can be 'judgy' when someone young first moves here as they assume you wont be around long or wont be a quality employee.
