We are visiting Las Vegas from Maui. We are visiting family in Las Vegas. I know most people say Las Vegas isn't for kids. But we need something to do while we visit our family. We are visiting Southern CA too and driving up to Las Vegas.

Usually I tell people who are vacationing here not to bring their kids, but you're visiting family! C'mon people, to everyone who said don't bring the kids, shouldn't the kids be able to visit with their family too?! I live here, and I have family who visits me. Even the ones with kids, GASP! I have kids too, and I let them live here in the city with me! The shark reef at Mandalay Bay is neat. They have a place where the kids can "pet" sting rays. My 7 year old loved it. If you go to the forum shops at Ceasar's palace they have a free show that goes on every hour or so about the fall of atlantis. (There are flames that shoot up to the ceiling, and it's pretty cool for the kids.) You can go on a tour of the Ethel M Chocolate factory and botanical gardens. I think it's free, and they give samples, we haven't gone yet but it's on the list. There are the lions at the MGM, if your kids would like that. And the mirage has a secret garden dolphin habitat that I have heard is nice. There's also the fountains at the bellagio, and the pirate ships in front of treasure island. The mirage has a volcano that erupts at night. Basically, you'll probably want to keep the kids off the strip after dark. That's when the guys start handing out the little escort cards. Your children WILL NOT be exposed to pornography at any time. There are billboards of girls in lingerie and/or scantily clad but anyone who considers that to be dirty hardcore pornography has no business in this city. The strip is very family friendly during the day, but not so much at night. The locals get really tired of seeing sleepy 5 year olds being dragged around the strip at 2 in the morning, which is probably why they get so rude about families coming here. Just be the good parent that I'm sure you already are, and you should all have fun. The rest of the city is just like any other city. Many of us who work here in Vegas have kids. It's not like you have to be neutered to become a resident. Have a great time visiting your family.

You're right in saying that Las Vegas isn't for kids. However, there are a few things that the kids can enjoy... Excalibur, NYNY, MGM, and Circus Circus (there are probably others too) all have arcades that most kids enjoy. Circus Circus, in addition to the arcade, has a fun midway and free circus acts. The Tournament of Kings at Excalibur is a must do! This dinner show is fun for kids and the kid at heart adult. My husband and I had a blast there and I highly recommend this event. There is a botanical garden at Bellagio (free, but probably boring). At the Forum Shops at Caesar's check out the Atlantis show in front of The Cheesecake Factory...and don't forget to stop at FAO Schwartz. Finally, if it is warm, spend a day at the pool. You may want to see if there is a show in town during your visit that the kids might enjoy (Miley Cyrus, My Little Pony, etc). Enjoy your trip (and hire a babysitter for at least one day so you adults can enjoy Sin City!)

I can't think of much of anything in Vegas for little kids. Even the amusment park type rides are adult oriented. Maybe the shark reef at Mandalay Bay. The Mirage has the white tigers on exhibit & the dolphin habitat. They might like the fountain show at the Bellagio or pirate show at TI. The over head light show in the old downtown is pretty wild.

Don't listen to people who say there is nothing in Sin City for the little ones. I've been going to Vegas on family trips since I was a wee one myself, before the family friendly options. Of course, I only know of the free/ cheap ones. . . 1) Animals @ The Mirage (someone has a Shark Reef) 2) M&Ms Store 3) Any Themned Restaurant - - like the @ the Exalibur or MGM's Rainforest Cafe. 4) The Forum Shops @ Cesars Palace have a big toystore and a huge aquarium, Oh and a lame Greek God show. 5) Treasure Island has a free show in front of the casino where the whole pirate ship sinks. Have Fun!

Mistress K has got it right . The Ethel M tour is great for kids. Your 5 year old will LOVE it. I have 6 children and Live here ( what is this world comming to?) There is plenty for children to do. ALso the Masquerade show at the Rio. My little ones are 5,4,3 and 2 and they ABSOLUTELY LOVE to ride the tram back and forth from the Excalibur to the Luxor. It's cheap, fun and Easy. The Outlet Mall on the South side of the Strip has a Merry go round for the kids to ride. (we live about 2 min. from there.) You can also take a little drive to Mt. Charleston...especially if you are from Hawaii, you little ones will get a kick out of the Snow! Only about a 45 min. Drive. ....E-mail me if you would like to have a playdate. Deana

Do yourself a huge favor and bypass Vegas with little kids. Vegas, except for some very minor things, is not kid or family oriented. Go to Disneyland or Disney World. And save yourself a huge headache.

Every time i have been to Circus Circus, there seems to be more kids than adults.. they have a little theme park thing on the top floor...

You are aware that if they are anywhere outsode they will see pornography, and there is no way to avoid it as it LITERALLY covers the streets.
