What hotel to choose?

Road Trip with myself, my father, and my Grandma: Which Las Vegas Hotel would you choose?

  • I'm disabled and use crutches and my grandma is 90 years old but has the body of a healthy 70 year old. I'm going to be bringing my sleeping bag so 2 queen beds is just fine, either I'll crash with my grandma or I'll sleep on the floor with my own blankets, so we are OK with all the 2-bed rooms I've seen. We will check in to the hotel on 12/28/2010 and check out on 12/30/2010. Each hotel seems to have about the same nightly price, so it isn't COST that I'm thinking about but QUALITY. I searched by A) Free Parking B) Handicapped Parking C) Disabled Accessible Bathrooms. Free internet would be sweet but it seems as if that is a pipe dream so I won't worry about it. ► MGM Grand Hotel has baby lions to look at and a good buffet. (I went here once when I was younger but didn't stay here.) ► Treasure Island Hotel seems to have more history. ► New York New York just looks cool. Which hotel would you choose?

  • Answer:

From all those 3, I'd definitely choose MGM. Quality wise, it's probably the best hotel among the 3. They all have Free Parking, Handicapped Parking, and you are able to request a room with disabled accessible bathrooms. The only thing is the parkade is quite far from the actual rooms, so if you are driving, it'll be quite the walk. It's the same with Treasure Island and NYNY as well but not quite as far. I'd recommend just doing free Valet or something. It'll be worth the $2 tip for your grandma to have a shorter walk. One more thing is, because MGM is so big, it's also a little roomier, which would be nice for your grandma. TI seems a bit cramped because it's smaller, and NYNY has kids wandering around and wouldn't recommend it. As for costs, it's always good to save money. First, at no extra cost as for the ADA wheelchair accessible room. Register the three of you. Most larger room have two bed and a convertible sofa. ALL hotels have ADA rooms, you just have to make sure when you make reservation you tell them you need ADA room. MGM is a huge casino, over three football fields long. Lion Habitat is very small, if you remember. But TI and NYNY are very nice, too. Of those I would choose NYNY since it is by Monte Carlo (with free monorail to the new Aria and on to Bellagio), Excalibur, Luxor, Tropicana, MGM. I love the atmosphere of NYNY, like being in Central Park (inside the casino).

Make sure you include the resort fees that those three hotels charge once you get here. Those are over and above what you pay for in advance. Look on the following webpage to see what hotels charge. So far as parking, I would use valet parking no matter what hotel you stay. It is free and a lot easier than trying to walk through the maze of parking garages. Tip the valet a few bucks each time. When you are no longer driving for the night, just inform the valet that takes your car and he will lock your keys up safely until you need your car. One less thing to have to carry and worry about. I would suggest you think about Ballys or Paris for their prices. Harrahs properties do not charge those hidden resort fees. Then again if internet access is important to you, the hefty $20 a day resort fee that Treasure Island charges includes internet access.
