Which side of the Canyon are you talking? Sounds like AZ side. Walking down the canyon on your own is a very long walk down and worse back. You can ride the burros or take a copter. Since you are rafting, buy more than once "package" is usually cheaper. The Canyon is cooler than the top, in the Mojave Desert. The best time is early summer or early fall.
