What to see between Las Vegas and Yosemite?
-
Me, my sister and dad are planning a 14 day holiday from Grand canyon to San Francisco in July. Flights are already booked starting in Phoenix, going home from San Francisco. We have made a plan for places we wanna see, but we are not sure what to do on day number 7. Ideas are either to go from las vegas to Zion and back, then drive the 7 hour long drive from las vegas to Yosemite the next day, OR, is it better to cut the long drive in half and go from Las Vegas to somewhere between Las Vegas and Yosemite? What is worth a visit and maybe a good stop for an overnight stay? Death Valley? Any ideas? And is 1 full day for grand canyon enough? here's our plan so far: day 1. travel 20 hours day 2. rest i phoenix, check out the area, recharge day 3. Tombstone and saguaro cactus park day 4. Day in Sedona, arrive at Grand Canyon evening day 5. Full day in Grand Canyon day 6. Las Vegas day 7. ?? (trip to zion and head off to Yosemite the next day OR go straight for yomemite with a possible overnight stop half way? Where, death valley??) day 8. arrive at Yosemite National park day 9. Full day at Yosemite National Park day 10. Arrive San Francisco day 11. San Francisco day 12. San Francisco day 13. San Francisco day 14. Flight home at 2 pm. Thanks for all your help! :)

Answer:
The General Sherman tree(largest living thing on Earth) in Sequoia NP is an impressive sight. I would advise more time in Yosemite and less in San Francisco.

What is there to see between Las Vegas, and Yosemite? Desert! Mile, after mile, after mile of barren desert.

I think I might just suggest heading from Vegas directly to Yosemite on day 7-- it's an 8 or so hour drive that will take up most of your day, and Yosemite is big enough and spectacular enough to justify more than a day. Also: you can definitely spend more than a day at the GC, but simply going, taking one look at the vista, and thinking 'wow that's the most incredible thing I've ever seen' is totally worth the trip. Also you might try taking a sightseeing flight over the canyon.

To answer your specific question, there is really no where to stop between LV and Yosemite, so it makes sense to drive it in one day. I didn't review your entire itinery but the first few days don't work. Tombstone is 3 hours from Phoenix Tombstone is 6 hours from Sedona Sedona is about 2.5 hours from the Grand Canyon. So how are you going to spend the day in Tombstone & Saguaro National Park, get to Grand Canyon the next night and actually see anything in Sedona. - In Phoenix you should also try to see Taliesin West, Frank Lloyd Wrights west coast architecture school
