-
Had my watch taken from my hotel room, had to be the cleaning person. Hotel said she didnt do it. I took it off before I went to work, put it on counter , not there when I returned. Toar the room apart , I am anal with this watch it was gone. What should I do, the hotel is playing stupid. The watch was worth 2k, and my hotel room is in another state.ofcoarse. What are the correct steps to follow .

Answer:
You will not see your watch again unless someone turns it in. The fact that a hotel employee was in your room between the time you last saw it and the time you noticed it was missing is not enough evidence to warrant a search of that employee. They will ask them "did you take the watch?" and if they say "no" then that is the end of it. The hotel is not required to reimburse you either, because the watch was not in a safe or safety deposit box. File a police report (don't get your hopes up, they will not file any search warrants over this), then use that report to file an insurance claim against your homeowner's policy. It should cover theft of your insured property even if it's not stolen from your home.

Why didn't you call the police? With the value of the watch the police would have investigated and a police report made. You would not believe how many people claim that something of value was stolen from their room. They do this for many reasons but hope to collect money or get money off their bill. That is the reason I would never take a computer on vacation with me nor any valuable item. Most hotels have room safes to put your valuables or leave them at the front desk where they give you a receipt and put it in their safe. They will then be responsible for it's care. Something just doesn't sound right about your story.

If you were so ANAL about it why would you just leave a 2K watch just out in the open in your room?? You should of used the hotel safe. To bad so sad..

Unfortunately there is not much you can do. The hotel is not responsible for your valuables left in your room because those valuables belong in the hotel safe. This will be a tough one to prove. No one leaves a $2,000 watch on a counter. Seek legal advise. Good luck.
