What are some Nice Places in Vegas?

What places are there to see driving from Phoenix to Las Vegas? Places to stop, eat, do anything...?

  • My girlfriend and I will be driving from Phoenix to Las Vegas and were looking for places to stop, things to see, things to do, great food to eat on the way. Let me know if you know of anything. We will be leaving PHX in the morning and driving during the day. Thanks.

No car drive would be complete without a trip through Sedona, and up through Oak Creek Canyon, there are some nice places to stop and eat both in Sedona and on the road though Oak Creek, I love the place that's how I got my user name, and you're not going out of your way if you're taking the road north out of Phoenix, just look for route 89a

Flagstaff is pretty and has tons of great restaurants. If you go maybe three hours out of your way, you can see the Grand Canyon. You go north from Flagstaff and then loop south again to Williams. When you go north from Kingman, stop to have a look at Hoover Dam.

It's pretty bleak if you take the fast route, 93 all the way. If you go up to Flagstaff there is a lot to see along the way, but it's also an extra 100 miles.

The most direct route is via I 17 through Wickenburg, then Wikkieup then onto Hwy 93 from Kingman straightaway to Las Vegas. Before you hit Kingman, it is mostly 2 lane hwy with some pull-outs for overtaking slower traffic. You see a lot of the desert here and it's not too exciting foodwise- Once you get to Kingman, there are the usual chain restaurants, but a favorite stop all-around is the Cracker Barrel-also a chain, but good honest American comfort food. The breakfasts are wonderful here! If you hold out till Boulder City, you will drive across one of the great engineering feats of the 20th century, Hoover Dam! This is a definite must see-take the full tour and watch the movie in the amphitheater to get a full appreciation of this man-made wonder and the resulting Lake Mead. Take your time and stop in downtown Boulder City and grab a a bite to eat at Milo's or the Coffee Cup-both wonderful local's restaurants. ( be advised that traffic across the dam can be slow-depending if you are driving through during peak time ex: Friday afternoon when everyone else is coming to Vegas or Sunday morning in the opposite direction when everyone is leaving Vegas) Have fun!
