Why shouldn't I take Cash with me to Las Vegas?
-
Me and my husband are only taking $600. We plan on having $100 on each of us per day and the rest in the hotel. I hear it is bad and a big NO NO to carry cash. Why is that?

Answer:
I would absolutely carry cash. If you need to withdraw $ for any reason, their ATM fees are through the roof. If anything, def. bring a check that you can cash at your front desk.

You will be just fine if you are careful. People gamble with cash so there is lots of it around. You cannot gamble without it. Watch your purse and wallet and stay out of seedy areas. At night take a taxi or car between casinos.

I wouldn't say it's a big no no. Just don't carry a lot of it. Always walk with at least one other person. Dress casually, don't flaunt it, don't put up that sign that you're rich. The Strip is usually safe to walk. As someone else said, you could take a taxi between hotels to be safe.

I always wear a fanny pack with the pouch in front of me. I keep my money in there all the time. I wouldn't leave money in the hotel for any reason. They even tell you they aren't responsible for lost or stolen cash left in the room .. even in the safe.

I would carry cash just not a lot at one time.

It's a NO NO because you'll end up losing it all in the casinos. Split your $$ so that all of it can't be lost in one session. Your hotel will have a deposit safe that is free to use. Some hotels have them in the rooms, others at the reception area. You'll need cash for cab rides and the many tips you will give out. Casinos on the strip require getting a "credits" card at the casino for use in machines and for chips. Gambling downtown can be done with cash in the machines.

its not a bad thing. i would put $200 on a pre paid visa or mastercard, just to be on the safe side. $600 for the both of you is a great budget, make sure you dont have all of your cash with you. leave some of it in your hotel safe.

I don't know who you are talking to but you ned cash to gamble, no choice. You can charge meals, rooms, shows, sourvenirs. You cannot charge tips or drinks or gambling. $100 is a nice amount per person if you don't bet lots at a time or play slots! If you need more money you cannot cash a check but casinos have ATM's that charge a small fee.

Despite what many may believe Vegas is just like any other town- they have banks there lol. Take some cash and have your debit card. Charge the things you want and use the cash for tips and gaming. It is kind of a common sense situation. You can get robbed, but that could happen anywhere so just use caution! have fun!
