How to get a job at a casino/hotel?
-
I'm a guy in my late 20s and i never had a job ever in my life. I do like to go to casinos a lot and like the atmosphere there. But the job that seems very appealing to me are those people at the front desk who check people in and out at the casino hotels. Of course the pay there is very low i but that job looks very good. Does anyone know if job positions like that are very hard to get? I checked online and it seems most require you to be a guest-friendly person and be a people person. I read some descriptions that having previous experience is a plus and of course a person with experience there will get a nod over the person with no experience. I don't know about you guys but if the pay was minimum wage, i would take it in a heartbeat. Has anyone here or know someone who tried to get a job at a casino and got it and can tell me how hard it is? I know there are positions at regular hotels as well for these front desk people but the ones at the casino seem really appealing than at a regular hotel. I know that people who work at retail such as starbucks etc get tired and rushed especially when there are so many customers waiting on line. But for hotel guests at the casino, it doesn't seem very stressful... of course I never had a job so this opinion of mine is holds no value probably because i have no experience. I know there are a ton of positions like host, bellman, cook, attendant at casinos but i would not qualify for any of those as you need skills in those things. Also, even though i have a college degree, it is not in that field. Anyone can give me any advice here?

Answer:
I started my career in the hospitality business very early and progressed through the ranks to Hotel management including several stints around the front desk as a clerk and supervisor. None of this was at a Casino and I no longer work in the Hospitality business. I moved into the recruiting business, helping companies recruit qualified talent and jobseekers find what they wanted. Here is how to get the job you desire: Spend a day or several wandering around Casino/resort front desks and quietly observe. Be there at check in time and check out time. Approach the clerks on duty when no customers are present and ask them about their jobs, engage them in conversation. Ask them how they got their job and are they aware of any openings. Do this at every property that you can untill you run out of properties or accept a job. Notice the following: How are they dressed? What is their personality like? Grooming? Now, before you go about approaching people, get a haircut, polish your shoes, wear nice slacks, put on a dress shirt and tie. Maybe even a jacket. This job is all about first impressions! Do you really want a job like this? I promise you that the above will work, I don't care what the unemployment numbers are. PS Do not start any conversations with: "I'm in my late 20's and have never held a job" Good luck!

my advice just start applying at every hotel/casino you can think of that is around your area and then after you apply the key thing is to call them everyday and keep bugging them eventually one of them will hire you just make a list and go in order of when you applied and make sure you write the dat that you applied down too I'm telling you this from experience I did this and I had no experience in fast food and now I have a job.

You need all the job experience previously! UNLV has hotel/guest classes. On Maryland Prkwy.
That was my final Answer.
You dont start with the good job, but rather lower level. So you wont start as a desk clerk but perhaps in reservation. Never hurts to apply. On your resume stress those areas of people interaction skills

I'm kind of concerned as to why you're so old and you've never held a job! Go on all the casino websites, apply to as much as they allow (unfortunately, usually they just accept one application per group of hotels and you have to wait until they accept or deny that to apply to another job you're interested in. Its a huge hassle.) I worked in a kiosk on the casino floor very briefly and I personally hated it. The smell of smoke and a perfume-y air freshener that all the casinos seem to use nowadays made me sick and you need to know your hotel and the surrounding hotels very well because you get asked 132048209428 questions about directions.
