What is the best car rental company to use in Las Vegas, NV?
-
I am looking to rent a car in Las Vegas. Price is a concern, but so is waiting in line for hours. So, what do you recommend for a car rental company in Las Vegas, NV? I'll be flying into McCarran and will obviously be picking up my car at the rent-a-car center they got going there. If you have rented in LV before, can you comment on your choice's: Price (it appears as though an economy car is relatively inexpensive averaging anywhere from $17 - $26) Service (roughly how long did you wait) Quality (did you get a nice vehicle or a total lemon) I am not looking to pay a whole lot more than $20, preferably under. Looks like Advantage & Payless are both under $20, but I don't have any experience with them. Please share your experiences. Thank you!

Answer:
Here is the secret, get signed up for one their free programs. Like Thrifty for example has blue chip. We have seen lines that look like they should be an hour long, but as a blue chip you have a special line and never have to wait more then a few mins. Honestly car rentals are basically all the same. Hertz and Avis charge more typically because people think they are more realiable, but in reality its not that much different then other.

Price: Go to http://reservations.lowfareking.com/nexres/cars/search.cgi?src=10017414/ to find a car within your budget. Service: If you will be traveling to Vegas on a regular basis and waiting in line is a concern why not join National Car Rental's free Emerald program which allows you to bypass the counter and pick up your car in the lot right away? Quality: The vehicles are nice and in above average running order.

I've rented many many times in my life. I will tell you this Hertz and Avis are best in terms of customer service, quality of the car and stand behind the vehicle if anything happens. I have used the cheap places and never satisfied, from getting crap cars, filthy cars and stupid customer service people than have no clue on how to fill out rental agreemnts. So, you send a few bucks for satisfaction and save a few to get aggravation. THat is my observation. I''ve rented over 100 cars in my lifetime.

best way is find another way to the hotel and rent the car away from the airport. there is an airport fee to rent there and there is often a wait.

Well I live here so I have never personally rented a car, but I have known people to rent Payless and have been satisfied.
Luck & Accident
I never get my car at the airport because there is a charge to check it out and one to return it at the airport.

i don't think we ever waited more than 15-20 minutes. and most of our trips there were for conventions (CES AND SEMA) always ended up with good cars. received free upgrades a couple of times.

I use Thrifty Blue Chip too, you bypass the long line at the counter and go right to their parking lot where a guy in a little shack just asks you to sign the contract and off you go. Returning the car is fast too, they have a handheld computer on WiFi or something and print out your receipt and you're on your way in about 45 seconds. I think all the car rental companies at the airport rent a center operate the same way though. There's an extra tax for renting at the airport but it's worth it for the convenience. There is no fee to return the car... I've rented cars at McCarran about 10 times. Renting a car for an entire day can cost the same as one cab ride from the airport to your hotel. Besides Thrifty I've used Hertz, Budget and Avis. They're all good at what they do.

Iceman is spot on with the "loyalty program" thing. I too use Thrifty's Blue Chip program. Generally, you will go straight out to the lot, your paperwork will be waiting and they will tell you which row to choose your car from. It shouldn't take more than a few moments 'tik you're on your way. I will add that I rented from Payless once. Never again. The vehicle was fine but the service was abysmal. Unless policy changed, they will not rent you a car unless you can produce an insurance card on the spot or buy their insurance. That is the only place I ever saw that. I rented a car with AWD and they went on at lenght how the car is not allowed off paved road and AWD is not 4WD. On top of all this, the way in which was spoken to was quite rude. Thrifty has been nothing but good to me.
