To people that live in Las Vegas. What's the job market like? Compared to IL (close to Chicago?)?
-
I am thinking about moving to Las Vegas with my boyfriend. He's lived there for 4 years but has been living in IL for the past 2. I've dated him for a year now. I live in Worth, IL. About 5-10 minutes on the outskirts of Chicago. I really don't want to work in Chicago. If I move to Vegas with him I feel like we'd get married. I am wondering what the jobs are like there. How much is minimum wage? My family keeps telling me that unemployment rate is a lot higher in Vegas than IL. Yet his mom has bee applying for part time jobs like crazy, and has had interviews. She has no degrees. Just as a certificate as a c.n.a. I've been looking for a new job here in IL, applying like crazy and no such luck. What gives? Any job to. I work at a fast food place right now. School I've got my Associates in Graphic Design, but can't find a job. Taking a medical terminology class to see if I"d like coding. Even if I move I"d only be able to afford one class a semester. I'll be 24 in two weeks, parents can't help me with schooling. I have keyboarding/ office skills. If I moved to Vegas I'm thinking office job. Housing is cheap there right? He's going to be moving b4 I would, late June, me mid August. He's looking for a 50 thousand dollar house. Hopefully he'd be able to find one before I'd move. LOL. Please only respond if you live in Nevada or Vegas. Thank you.

Answer:
As I told you the last time it is bad here. There are but a few professions hiring. One is sales where you work for commission and get little or no base salary and the other is medical. CNAs are in big demand as are nurses and other medical personel. Anything to do with the hotel or casino industry is at rock bottom and they are still laying off. For every one job opening there are 100 applicants. Plus they would rather hire someone who has lived her for awhile and not just moved here. The reason is people who move here have a high rate of moving away again. If you didn't read this article before you should read it now.
