What is the best Grand Canyon tour?

Lake Mead / Hoover Dam The Hoover Dam trip is good for anyone who is interested in the creating of modern day wonders. The Hoover dam is an interesting place to visit if the history and the making interests you. If this this not your thing i do not think a tour specific to the dam will interest you. If you go to the Grand Canyon or Lake Mead you will probably find yourself having a photo stop here which will be enough for most people.

In my honest opinion and as apparently Kaye (above) found out, a day trip to the Grand Canyon is just not worth the time and cost. To really get a good look at Grand Canyon National Park, it's better to make it an over-night trip. You can rent a car in Vegas rather cheaply and make the drive yourself. See the sun set over the Grand Canyon, enjoy a very quiet evening in the high desert and drive home in the morning after a good night's sleep and a hearty breakfast.

To be totally honest and not to put you off but I thought it was a real disappointment. We booked through our hotel - Excallibur - and went on a small tour in a minibus of about 11 people. As the Grand Canyon is the only thing near Las Vegas for tours it was really played upon and rather expensive. It was a hell of a drive, we were there about 90mins, the rest of the time was travelling and we were picked up at 5.30am, we stopped briefly at Hoover Dam - which was nice - then dropped back at 10pm earliest. If you imagine the Grand Canyon like I did with all the water gushing through the rocks etc then thats not what to expect. You are on the top of the canyon hill, looking across like looking across a football pitch, you can't see into the canyon and certainly not the water in the bottom. My advice would be to take a helicopter tour where they actually fly down it, it may be a lot dearer but I wouldn't go otherwise. You get a much better view on the telly!
