Answer:
It seems that the overwhelming opinion around here is that Jacksonville sucks. I think a place is what you make it for the most part. I've lived here for a little over 3 years. I relocated from a small town in Southeast Florida. Would Jacksonville be my first choice? No, but I think it's a pretty nice town. We have a great mayor and most people are pretty nice. Be careful of certain neighborhoods though. Things can get rough around here, it is afterall a big city. I would personally stay away from the Westside. The Northside is pretty spartan. The Beaches are a lot more expensive. You're best bet is on the Southside or nicer Arlington area. Use this link for researching neighborhoods. http://maps2.coj.net/crimestatsdiscl.asp?sJAxGIS=Y You click on Accept and it will take you to a map. Put the address in and it will give you crime statistics for the immediate area. I use this when we are looking to move. It is pretty accurate and can give you a good idea of where to stay far away from. At this website, http://swz.salary.com/CostOfLivingWizard/layouthtmls/coll_metrodetail_79.html there is a relocation calculator. Scroll down a bit and enter your city and Jacksonville, and your base salary. www.coj.net is Jacksonville's official city website. There are many links that you can go to that will be of help with relocating. As far as school's I can't be of much help. If you have questions feel free to email me and I will help you the best I can!

It would be helpful to know just why you have chosen Jacksonville, Florida specifically. Do you have relatives or friends already living there? What about the hurricanes and what about a possible sunnami (misspelled)?

Yeah, be aware that the cost of housing will probably be close to triple. Get a real estate agent to help your relocation. You probably won't pay them anything as the seller or landlord will pay their fee.

if you are going to live in the Jacksonville area...i'd try Orange Park, or one of the suburbs along the coast. jacksonville can be a pretty rough town.

Great place one of the top 5 in the country you will love it!

Don't do it....find a better place to relocate...The other posters are right, if you can't afford Orange Park or near the Beach do not do it... Read Craigslist rant and raves section for anyplace you are considering moving...
