Can I make a reservation with no credit card?

If i make a reservation for a hotel with my credit card is it paid for or just being held with my credit card?

  • Answer:

Where did you book the reservation? That is a very important first step. The reason is that sites like (Expedia.com, Travelocity.com, Hotels.com, etc.) will charge the entire amount immediately. So if you stayed at XYZ Hotel for $99 per night for 3 nights, they would charge $99x3+taxes. If you reserve the room throught the hotel directly (telephone, or website) they only charge 1st night+tax and the remainder is due at checkin. You have usually 72 hours to cancel before your reservation begins without penalty. If we knew where and how you made this reservation it would make the answer easier as well.

Generally, it is just Held. But, if you don't show up or do not cancel within their cancelation period, they will charge the room to your card

Comfortably Numb

Both. It depends on your bank whether the payment is instant or not. If the card is not on-line (instant activity) then it may take a few days to be charged to your account. But either way, whether it is just being held on the card or instant, it should be paid for. Usually while you're on the phone with them they put it through the system to determine whether the funds are available before they book the room for you. = )
