When does rush hour traffic begin and end in Houston?
-
If we were living in the Woodlands and commuting to Old Katy Road, what time could my husband expect rush hour traffic to begin and end? He has a lot of flexibility in his job so he could work hours around rush hour traffic.

Answer:
6:00 AM to 9:00-10:00 Am 3:00 PM to 7:00-8:00 PM. Traffic is beginning to increase about 5:00 AM. With construction, rush hour is all day in Houston. I10 is not nice. Friday is worse. Rain is hell!

Around 7 a.m. is the worst and after 2 p.m. At least he doesn't have to go downtown. I don't live there but drive through often on the way to the hill country. I try to go through Houston about 3:30 a.m. The traffic is a nightmare there....always wrecks and congestion. Beltway 8 is worth every penny when I have to go during the day. Woodlands is a great place to live. Good luck to you both.

yeah, i agree with pretty much everyone else. unless you are out the door by 6am at the latest, from 930-230 or after 730pm, it is traffic time. and even if it is the weekend you have no guarantee of smooth sailing, the traffic gods always find a way to show their wrath! having a toll pass is usually the best thing and trying to plan your drive with that. or just move closer to work.

Work close to home. Otherwise, you will sit in traffic while the smart people go home and play with their dog all afternoon. If you work on old Katy road, then look around there for a nice house. The Heights victorians, Montrose bungaloes, Memorial and Tanglewilde manors, or a high rise loft in mid town are good choices for you. The traffic will be on the freeways as you stop at the cleaners, the gym and the best grocery stores Houston has to offer. Then you'll have time for fun at the theater district downtown. Houston's newly refurbished inner city has so much to offer, there's no reason to live in the suburbs and become another Wal Mart shopper / soccer mom/ suv gas guzzler. Houston is a mecca of art and talent. Everything colorful is inside 'the 610 loop' and all the commuters are left out, drinking starbucks all the way home.

i have been following your posts and if he is going to work for the engineering firms on old katy road, and living in the woodlands you both are making a huge mistake. do you want an exhausted irritable husband at the end of the day. Katy would be a better choice for you.
